Extra taxes and fees for DirecTV?
Does anyone have any idea what the extra taxes and fees are like for DirecTV? I am debating about sticking with cable or switching over to Directv, and I know with my cable company I end up paying quite a bit in taxes and fees, and I was wondering if those are the same with dish. (I live in Buffalo, NY)

Insurance is optional, and unlike Dish, DirecTV does not add an extra charge if you don't have a phone line. There is an additional monthly charge for each extra receiver. Taxes depend on you local community. I don't know of any other extra fees -- all the rest is determined on the packages you buy. You can ask DirecTV for a complete breakdown of all costs, fees, and taxes for what you want to get.

I'm not really sure, I've currently got the "farmer five" TV (I use an outdoor antenna) :). Actually now I get quite a few more channels with the digital transition, including PBS kids shows all day long, and the CW, just to name a few but it depends where you live and what stations you receive there. I thought about getting DISH or Directv but as I went online and started adding everything I wanted, the price went up very quickly so I decided to stick with the antenna. I'm sure there are hidden fees. Its like that with everything nowadays (Cell phones, internet, TV, you name it). Good luck with your TV! I know I didn't really answer your question but please just read the fine print before you sign up for anything with DirecTV.

It's $5 per extra TV beyond the first, and if your account has an HD receiver, it's an additional $10 for HD access (per account) and if you have a DVR it's an additional $6 (per account). There may be taxes or regulations, but DirecTV doesn't add those on. It varies by state, do a google search for your states' satellite tax

Hi Sarah,
That's a very good question. I'm in the same boat as you. I've heard rumors of little fees, like DVR insurance and a monthly fee for not having a telephone line hooked up to your receiver, but I've never heard about additional taxes like the cable company charges us. I'll have to keep on checking out this question and see if anyone answers it. Best of luck.

Depends on yout area. follow the advice of previous poster, or better yet call an install company in your area and get it in writing how much your monthly bill willbe. And by the way, the cable company doesn't chage you the taxes and fees. Those are taxes and fees set by your local community and only passed thru to you. The taxes and fees your community charges you are set by them not the cable company
