I believe Judas was called because Jesus said something like. I chose the twelve of you and still one of you is a snake.

All of Jesus' DISCIPLES were "volunteers" -- that is, through God's calling (invitation), which is, of course, a type of choosing. But Jesus CHOSE who his Apostles would be.
