How come "creation scientists" are able to fool so many otherwise intelligent people?
Is it because many people don't understand even the most basic characteristics of what constitutes science or do they set aside their understanding of science when it conflicts with their religious beliefs? Doesn't the fact that the "creation scientists" are in the business of running internet "ministries" make them suspect they may not be scientists after all?

Mike: You know, lot's of great scientists have been of other, non-Christian faiths as well. But nobody on your list tried to pass off their religious faith as science, did they? So what does your list have to do with my question?

fraSDA: oh come on! Do you really expect anyone to believe that evolution is a religion? It isn't, and here is why. Let's examine the definition of religion that you cite: "Cause, principle or system of beliefs held with ardour and faith," and focus on the part about "beliefs held with ardour and faith." "Belief" is not something associated with science because the term means that you accept something without evidence or in spite of evidence to the contrary--that fits fine with religion but any scientist who cited his/her "belief" instead of solid, verifiable evidence to support any hypothesis while doing science would and should be fired from their job. And the rest of it, "held with ardour and faith"--well, as soon as a scientific hypothesis or theory is proven wrong, it is either modified (science is self-correcting) or it is completely thrown out. Holding something "with ardour and faith" is NOT something a scientist does.
Any scientist who could prove evolution did not happen would be the most famous scientist in the world and would become wealthy beyond their wildest dreams just from the lecture fees and book royalties he or she would take in. Why? It's because disproving evolution would be as monumentous as disproving the atomic theory (now don't you think that would be significant or is that another theory you don't understand?)

They lie about the number of scientists who reject evolution and rely on the fact that many people are too lazy to independently verify what they are told.

Webster's Dictionary defines religion as follows, "Cause, principle or system of beliefs held with ardour and faith." Surely this is an apt description of evolution.
Evolution is a 'belief system' i.e. a religion !
Models of science are subject to change for both creationists and evolutionists. But, the beliefs that these models are built on are not. The problem is that most scientists do not realize that it is the belief (religion) of evolution that is the basis for scientific models (the interpretations, or stories) used to attempt an explanation of the present. Evolutionists are not prepared to change their actual belief that all life can be explained by natural processes and that no God is involved (or even needed). Evolution is a religion to which they are committed. Christians need to wake up to this.
Evolution is a religion, not a science.

Creationism is the pseudo-scientific confirmation of the faith that they were indoctrinated into at birth.
Their religion and culture cannot possibly be wrong can it ?
They have believed in it all of their lives.
Their religion demands that truth is subordinate to the myth.
They are trapped in a psychological conundrum.

The same way that the people who are members of the religion of "man-made global warming" have so many followers when geothermal scientists debunks the garbage.

Science is tentative at best. Consensus is no measure of factuality. Even long-trusted scientific theories can be challenged by anomalies. As Thomas Kuhn and subsequent philosophers of science have pointed out, scientists typically work within paradigms, or accepted explanatory frameworks. Anomalies are surprises that don't fit the paradigm. When too many anomalies accumulate, a scientific revolution may occur, and a new paradigm may take its place.
If you compromise the Bible with the latest paradigm, your position could become a casualty of the next one. The Bible has outlasted a great many paradigms. Considering its Author, that's no surprise.

"Is it because many people don't understand even the most basic characteristics of what constitutes science or do they set aside their understanding of science when it conflicts with their religious beliefs?"
It's probably a mix of both, but more the second one. A secular person who studies science will generally agree with it, but a creationist who studies science will have his brain go limp.

what I suspect is that people who accept he theory of evolution do it becuz they are in rebellion against what anyone can see if they just look around and that is that there is intelligent design here thus there is an intelligent designer and it is that designer who is soooo superior to those who wish He did not exist thus making them at the apex of intelligent life instead of Him. Jealous and pride therefor are at the root of the avoidance of rational thought which any one can see is that this is an intelligently created universe.
pride goes b4 the fall.
