I do, and for a simple reason: personally, I could care less if gays marriage, but I DO care whether or not the law interferes with my private, personal life. It is none of your business what I do behind closed doors, and I do not believe the government should be legislating our lives. Where does it end? By the fundamental principle used to pass Proposal 8, you could just as easily pass an amendment banning sex between old people, or marriage between different races, or whether or not you are allowed to watch television or not. That is the very opposite of democracy. Again, truthfully, I could care less about homosexuals and their rights. But I do care about Americans and their rights, and a homosexual American is still an American citizen. They should, by the Constitution of this nation, have the right to get married if they so choose.
And, actually, I am a Christian, too! So the Biblical argument is totally bogus. We have a separation of church and state in this nation for a reason. What is more, it is interesting how so many Christians don't mind ignoring whatever parts of the Bible THEY choose to (you don't see anyone picketing to legislate against adultery, lying, cursing, wearing clothes made of different kinds of fibers, cutting the hair over your ears, women not wearing head-coverings, or judging thy neighbor, now, do you?), but then conveniently whip out Leviticus to curse people doing something that has absolutely nothing to do with them.
p.s. Just read all the answers here, and didn't see a single one that logically or rationally provided any reason whatsoever to be opposed to gay marriage, aside of personal beliefs. So what happens when the government legislates against YOUR personal beliefs? Hmm...

I believe that the government should not discriminate based on sexual orientation. For me, it is a civil rights issue; it is only fair that gay couples have access to all the same legal advantages to marriage that heterosexuals do.
However, I understand that for the religionists, marriage is a sacred institution ordained by God. I also understand why many gays object to the term civil union if heteros still get to use the term marriage, as it makes them second class citizens. They can ride the bus, but have to sit in the back.
I think the ideal solution is to get government out of the "marriage" business altogether. Let the religionists have sole use of the term marriage and they can do with it as they wish. It is a sacrament and just like baptism, each religion can set up whatever rules they want about who can be married or baptized by them. As far as the government is concerned, they will only recognize civil unions, both hetero and homo. All current legal marriages will be called civil unions as far as the law is concerned, and all future legal "marriages" will be called civil unions. That way everyone will be the same under the law (no second class citizens), and the religionists don't need to worry about the government redefining a term they believe was defined by god.

Umm... you say that you are a christian, so I'm going to remind you of a little history... Once upon a time there were two very well known cities that acted in ways contrary to Gods plan. These cities were Sodom and Gomorrah... and the men in that city thought that it was fun to "mess around" with other guys. Those two cities were COMPLETELY DESTROYED!!! WIPED OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH!!! They didn't even get married in that city, it was just accepted as ok! What makes you think that if we accept it too that God won't mind? Seriously! No, I don't support gay marriages! Homosexuality is... just down right revolting!

I do not support it and will never be able to support it politically or financially or morally.
One of the biggest fallacies I have ever heard in my entire life is that "gay marriage does not hurt anyone." In the past 17 years of observing people around me, I have learned that it severely hinders the social, emotional, and/or spiritual progress of those who engage in a supposed lifestyle of that sort. It leaves the two people of the opposite gender out in the cold who the two individuals would have married later on if they had decided to remain chaste instead. It also stymies the natural creation of families and children. Can you imagine what would happen if everyone in the world suddenly decided overnight they were homosexual or lesbian? Try thinking of the end of civilization in about 75 years or less. I have listened to conversations between lesbians and homosexuals before and will state unequivocally that those conversations included some of the most sex-oriented, most selfish expressions I have heard in my entire life. At the same time, we all can recognize that there are extremely talented, bright people in the world who struggle with same-sex attraction. I also believe that God, in His great love and omniscience, has given us free agency to choose for ourselves whether or not we will follow His laws. One of those commandments is to live the law of chastity. That means that you do not have any sexual relations with ANYONE unless you are properly and legally and lawfully married. That means that promiscuity of any kind should be minimized or eliminated. I believe that God knew beforehand that there would be all of these people who are going through gender confusion, and I believe that some people have been separated from those who would have been their true soul mates (of the opposite gender) by hundreds of miles, years, decades, or even lifetimes, until they are able to pass through these temptations and learn whatever they needed to learn or wanted to learn, to come back to Him. I am aware of people who have gone through terrible abuse as children and have had enormous difficulty even relating to the opposite gender until years or even decades have passed. I believe that marriage is a blessing that will come to a person when they are living the pre-requisite laws first. But the pre-requisite laws do not ever include engaging in homosexuality or lesbian activity. Sometimes people go through more than one marriage, but there are reasons for that as well. I do not believe marriage is a "cure" for same-sex attraction, but I believe that with knowledge of where the temptation comes from, and learning how to resist those temptations when they come may in fact considerably reduce or eliminate those same-sex attraction feelings. One of the biggest things which must be strictly done would be to eliminate 100% watching or reading or looking at sex-oriented movies, shows, books, magazines, etc. That might be a big sacrifice to some, but the rewards that come with it are amazing in the long run, including the ability to receive inspiration much more quickly.

The practice of homosexuality is destructive to the human soul and God gave His warnings about this in the Bible. Supporting gay marriage is a sin because it means to support homosexuality.
Iniquities (sinful tendencies) pass down the generation line if they are not removed by the Blood of the Lord Jesus. Homosexuality is caused by iniquity and the Blood of Jesus cleanses the iniquities of all who accept Him as their Saviour.
After a person accepts the Lord Jesus as their Saviour, they are transformed and made a new creature in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). So the gay person would be changed and so would the alcoholic, liar, drug addict, fornicator etc. It's the power of the Blood of Christ and the Holy Spirit in the believer that brings about this transformation.
REDEMPTION BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH
Because mankind is incapable of meeting God’s standard of perfection necessary to abide in God’s presence (Romans 3:19-20,23), God sent His Son Jesus Christ to pay the total debt for the believer’s sins and mercifully credits to his account Christ’s righteousness (Romans 3:21-28,5:1-11; 2 Corinthians 5:18-21). Jesus’ gracious act of atonement was complete and covers all sin (Colossians 2:13-14; 1 John 1:9). Salvation is not based on good deeds but according to the mercy of God (Titus 3:4-5). Believers are justified by faith; it is a gift by God’s grace (Romans 4:3-8; Ephesians 2:8-9). A true, living faith will result in a desire to live a holy, loving life of good works (Ephesians 2:10; Galatians 5:6; James 2:14-26), but failure to be absolutely successful at righteous living does not negate the believer’s justified status.
If you sincerely say this prayer, your sins will be washed away, you will be redeemed to God, be saved from eternal torment and inherit the Kingdom of God:
"Dear Jesus,
I am a sinner.
I repent of my sins.
Please forgive me and save me by your shed blood;
come into my heart.
I want to receive you as my own personal Lord and Savior.
Amen"

I do not support gay marriage. I am not saying that I hate people who choose (it is a choice, not a disease or genetic thing) to live that particular lifestyle. I believe marriage should be between one man and one woman.
You say that you are a Christian. I assume then, as a Christian, you believe that the Bible is the infallible Word of God. In Leviticus 20:13, God tells the Israelites that: "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltiness is upon them."
You might be wondering why God would say something so mean. He's supposed to be a kind loving God, not fire and brimstone. Think about it. Not much would be accomplished. I'm not saying that God isn't loving. He is. But you need to remember that He is the God of the Universe who created everything from the largest galaxy to the smallest atom. He is not just a warm, fuzzy teddy bear.

No I support welfare cases. I'll be damned if they tax me to support gays too. (LOL) Why do you want to get married it is a sanction created under God and most gays I have talked to don't believe in God. If you do believe in God then you must believe in the word and not question the reasons of God. I understand people pick and choose from the bible the parts that fit their needs and belief and want to use seperation of church and state when convienient, as like your situation.
I myself think if they do allow for gay marriage their should be no loopholes you should be penalized with higer taxes like normal married couples. Why don't you just goto one of those states that is Pro-Gay. Good Luck in your quest.

Yes, they have the same rights under our constitution as everyone else.
Marriage is not religious. It is secular. Many religions have their own ceremonies, true, but you don't need to ever go to a church to be married.

I don't actually support it. I agree that there should be some kind of civil union. I believe marriage is more of a religious thing, I might be wrong, but that's how I see it. If I was married to a man, whether it was 5 days or 50 years, I would be able to share his benefits, as he would mine. Why shouldn't gays?
What I don't believe is the violence and protests because of it. On either side.
