What is your opinion on curtains only on the sides of windows? Pics included for better description.?

I'm asking about curtains that could obviously never be functional for covering a window because the rods they are on do not extend over the actual window. Would it look better to just put a rod over the whole window so it LOOKS like they could be 'closed' or does it look okay to just have rods on each side? We have horizontal blinds on the windows so the curtains would be purely decorative.

I found these pictures online that show the general look I am asking about:

These are true window dressings. The whole point is to decorate the window - form with no function. If your room and windows are large enough to "handle" the extra window treatment (in addition to your blinds), go with what looks the best with your decor! Who says everything has to be functional?????

I think it depends on how it is done. In the pictures I think it looks kind of funny because the curtains are just floating there. If your windows are close to an adjoining wall, though, I think they look great to fill in the gap between the window and the wall. If you take them from the edge of the window all the way over to where the wall ends, visually they help continue the windows all the way over which makes them look bigger and the area more polished.

So, in the first picture you posted, I think they look kind of funny because they just frame the window. If they extended all the way from the window to the wall, though, they would work really well. Then it looks like your window is as long as the wall.

i dont think they look right

i have very heavy curtains in the lounge and they are never closed, neither are my bedroom ones as we are not over looked, i thought about doing this but it just doesnt look right to me so i opted for the pole all they way to look like they can be closed

i like the way it adds texture to the room and look nice, but at the same time it'd be a lot better if it was functunal.

I think it looks a bit odd, as soon as you see it you know it's decoration only so what are they doing there?

I think it looks kind of weird.
