what do you think about this 'Repost, Especially When It's Time Has Come Round Again' poem?
Crowds in bleachers. Hot Dogs, Chili Fritos. Pickles.
Sodas guzzled. Tension high. Blue the sky.
Pallette clouds...acrylic colors.
Hot, that afternoon.
Children laughing. Splashing water puddles
Under benches.
Shadowed cool.
Paper cups, flags breeze-blown...
East, West...tension winds.
Home Team in the field. Two outs.
Bottom of the seventh. Score...3 to 2.
Home advantage.
Visiting Team standing. Tension roars wild.
For McNighty wasn't a clean-up batter.
Up to the plate. Spit on his hands.
Realigned his cap. Spit on his bat.
Glared at Home Ump.
Home Ump...blue steel.
Catcher fingered a call.
High fly foul. Crowd went wild!
Pitcher threw. Ball flew low...Strike two!
Crowd roared, 'One more! One more! '
McNighty stepped away from the plate.
Readjusted his grip...spit.
Catcher opened, closed his glove.
Pitcher's leg up, high arm arc,
Ball's release a blur...
98, it clocked that day.
Caps flew high in the field!
3 up,3 down...Home Team danced,
Surrounded the mound...and
Their silent mate...
Known as 'The Clean-Up Pitcher.'
McNighty kicked dirt at the Home Ump.
Home Ump spoke to his captain.
The captain nodded...walked away
McNighty was off that team...
Forever, and a day.
But who is this McNighty in this poem????????
Anyone we know......

If not for the 98 mph pitch, I have though this to be a little league game with all the tension in inning 7 rather than 9. And if a youngster has a fast ball that speed, he is destined for greatness alongside Nolan Ryan and his 105 mph trademark. Nice read.

I loved it! It made me wish I were at a ball game! Hot dogs, sodas and blue Sky's! Children laughing, under bleachers! Acrylic colors on their caps! Flags and cups breeze blown! Sort of makes me feel sad for old McNighty! Nice read! I did enjoy it,very much! Especially with all this wintry bluster!

My first love is American football, followed by that great sport, baseball. Contrary to popular belief, is is not necessary to have a team to root for to enjoy a game. When I hear a symphony, I don't root, say, for the woodwinds against the strings.
Your poem, after a Sunday of watching four great teams play, let me once again feel the excitement of the game as it described not only the plays, but the peripheral activities. I very much enjoyed reading it.

If the home team was in the field, it would be the top (not the bottom) of the seventh. The visiting team always bats in the top of the inning, not the bottom.
Also, what's a guy with a 98mph fastball doing on a team that plays 7 inning games?

The true images of vital events in life are always look as new when they come in time. Its grade of newness depends on event's vitality to the person.. Its all about the joy of the moment.. Some people find Baseball boring, others find sex boring.
Your poem (captured) the essence of those moments of the Game.. It shall look as new even in the next season, and the next.. and the next..
Love your pen!

I get the excitement but I know as much about baseball as I do about sub-atomic particle science. Sorry!
Now, if you were to capture moments in Rugby Union you would have me hanging.
(I don't do soccer, tennis, golf, athletics or motor sports either! My sports are Rugby, TaeKwonDo and Clay Pigeon
Shooting.)
Years ago we played the Canadians at Medicine Hat and whupped 'em by about ten 'runs'. They were not happy until we cracked open a lorryload of Labatts!! :-))

My daughter found this piece to be a wonderful bit of Americana. Altho she is sure it was an oversight on your part about not mentioning the Cubs as the greatest team in the universe. EVER!!
