When people answer these questions where the hell do they get there prices for skilled trades men ?
Many of the people that answer questions have no idea how much it costs to rewire a house replace a water heater ect
what i had meant was the prices people quote were so far off the mark no matter what, one guy posted a couple hundred bucks to upgrade an electric service as a min i charge 2000 and i live in a severly depressed area of coal region
and as an electrician sorry guys but most home owners **** up more than they fix, i can't tell you how manytimes i went to someones house and a 2 hour job became 8 hours because of DIY

you are on the mark i have had same problems in drywall repair most homeowners will ****up more than they help and when you ask for a fair price to repair they're mess ups they treat you like a thief oh well

The prices all depend on where you live. As a contractor, I can tell you what a job costs here in Texas, but the answer wouldn't make any sense anywhere else. The only thing that's fairly consistent is the price of materials, and that still varies.

i've found that prices are different depending on what part of the country you are in. For instance, up north there is alot of union labor and down here in the south we don't really have many unions; making prices different.
But-I think alot of the time people just don't know what they are talking about.

i'm an electrician & think $200 is a great price. i can bareley buy materials (panel, breakers, wire, etc.for thatprice. leaves nothing for labor. i don't work for free, not even family.

most of the folks here dont know...but by the same token , i cant get the same money for my work that some mason in san francisco can get...its called prevailing wage and it differs in every part of the country...

madmarv:oh hell yes i do that's why i do it myself.if u don't have the time for it then pay the price.if u want to learn how buy a book.wiring is not that hard black is always hot white is common green is ground and red is hot also.
