Identity theft scam question?

Is there a scam out there that gets somebody's identity by sending the victim a fake check (not a money order check) for them to deposit and then the scammer gets the victim's identity somehow by the victim cashing it?

I used to work at Chase Bank and got lots of people getting scammed all the time...they send you a check you cash it using your account and send them 75% of the cash and keep the rest...then the check bounces and you owe he bank LOTS of money! I don't know how they steal your identity though. I never heard that one.......

I know there are a ton of scams that identity thieves use these days. I haven't heard of that one. I know if they get your account number they can print out fake checks and use them. I have identity theft protection with SOLUS. Their website has all kinds of information about identity theft. Types of identity theft and preventative tips. The website is http://www.solusid.com./ They also have a blog on their site that I found informative.
