Using Knife Disconnects?
I need to know if it is possible to use a 200 amp knife switch on a 300 amp 12 volt system. The system has a 4/0 wire running to it. I was going to split the two pole and make it one 12 volt. Yes , No , ??
Thanks
The system is a 24 volt batterie to the 24/240 inverter, installing a fuse of 300 amps. and it is 4/0 copper stranded. This disconnect will be used to cut the batteries loose to work on the fuse or the inverter.

I believe everybody forgot to read the part about splitting your 200 amp switch as one pole is rated for 200 amps you should be fine using both poles together to disconnect 300 amps at load.

Even though the system has a 4/0 wire, you cannot do this because of the 200 amp. No don't do this.

Well, I would say it isn't a good idea, but, what is the actual load going to be applied, I say this because most of the time things are ridiculously over sized. To give you a good answer I would need you to give me more info, ie is it 4/0 al or 4/0 copper, with the switch be exercised often ETC
But if your doing this on the up and up, and want it to be legal NO NO NO, if your pennsylvania dutch engineering maybe, just depends what you want and how critical it is
