step by step from homless to supporting yourself? help....?
Hey, my name is Brian and I was just laid off from work i currently live with my mother and step dad and was about to start college in January but now that i have lost my job my step father is persuading my mother to kick me out of the house i am just under too much stress. I have been vigorously looking for a job with no luck. If i am kicked out which i believe i will be and soon what can i do about this i do not want to live on the street. I am from the Philadelphia area (willow grove) and frankly it would be a gift and a curse to get kicked out but i just do not know how to start my life without the support of others. I want to be able to make it on my own and even living in this house i am surely going to die from the stresses that i shouldnt be receiving. I am fairly intelligent. I just need a job to save money and a temp place to live so i can save up and move far far away from the problems i face here which shouldnt be my problems. I am just so confused how can i change everything about my life and make it on my own? please help

Its sad that you're having to go through these problems. I wish I had an answer that would make it all work out quickly. The problem is, many people are in the same situation right now, out of work, etc. The only things I can suggest is that you try to talk openly to your mother, when her husband isn't around and tell her that you're trying hard to find work, and that if she makes you leave, you will be homeless and even further from getting yourself back on track. If she doesn't stand up to him then my only other suggestion is to maybe contact a caring relative and let them in on your situation and see if you can stay with them, find a job, pay a little for room & board until you get back on track and able to get to college or somehow take a student loan out, which also helps pay for housing. Just hang in there as long as you possibly can and concentrate on your goal and with some hard work it should happen. I wish you the best of luck and again, feel sorry that you are having to deal with so much at your age.

Okay... so calm down and think rationally. You are not out on your kiester yet.
Check around on Craigslist or your student union for a single room for rent, or a roommate situation, or a small garage apartment. See if there is a dorm space available. You don't need much... just some private space and some quiet. You can always upgrade.
Check around some of the big supermarket chains... the ones that run 24 hours would need several shifts of people to stay stocked. You can juggle 2 part-time jobs and still attend classes.
Keep your eye on your goals... getting through college is your first set of hurdles. Your work history will speak for itself.

Make sure you do get yourself into college and apply for federal and state financial aid. Also look for scholarships within your school as well. Student loans can also be used for living expenses. Near campus apartments with lots of roommates are usually the cheapest and there should be staff on campus that can help you find a job. Don't give up!

First step is to get any type of job you can even if it means flipping burgers. That will show you're willing to do anything to have paycheck and it also shows character. You need to do something for the time being, still look for another job and the right one will come.

You should work in a fast food restaurant double shift and once you go to school apply for financial aid and grants. good luck
