How much do you tip the baggers at the commissary ?
At my commissary they always sack my groceries in pairs, and then one person carries them outside. I always get 5 one's and give the other bagger 1 dollar and the bagger who takes my stuff outside the other four dollars. But they don't ever seem to be happy or disappointed either way. Is this not enough, or to much? I have thought about asking them what most people give them, but I am always thinking they might just lie to get me to give them more money.
And yes I already know the baggers are not payed and only recieve tips.

I used to pay by the bags with $5 being the max. Now I do the same as you; I put a dollar in the little box at the checkstand and give $3 or $4 to the person that helps me out.

We always base it on how much we have in the cart and how helpful they are. If I only get a few items we just carry it out and leave a dollar or so in the box for the person who bagged them.
Here at Bliss they unload your cart for you (put them on the thing to be rung up) at the check out if you let them (no other place that we've been to they didn't do that) Including the AF academy commissary. It took some getting used to and I still have to make myself let then unload it for me most of the time just because doing ourselves is such a habit. Since getting here the typical amount we give for a 150-200 dollar order is about 4-5 dollars between the pair of baggers.

It depends on how much I spend, under $100 it is $2; under $200 it is $3/4 and over $200 it is $4/5. It can also depend on weather conditions, where I am parked, etc... That is the standard from what I have heard, some also say about $.25 a bag.
This money is NOT TAX FREE they must turn all their tips into the Manager and they in turn deduct an amount to pay Federal & State Income Tax, Social Security and Medicare.
There is no guarantee that they will have a person every 15 minutes, on some days they will make $30 and on other days they can make $200. It ranges from hour to hour and day to day. Around Paydays is usually the best time, between paydays is the slowest.

This is a very good question. For me it depends on how much shopping I have done. It's it's the 1st or 15th and I do major shopping I tip $4-5. If it's mid week and light shopping I pay $2-3. I remember years back as a teenager I worked at a Dairy Queen as a cook for minimum wage and a friend (my age) worked as a bagger at the commissary. I had to work my butt off to earn a $200 paycheck every two weeks and she was complaining that she only earned $150 in one day! I realized I needed to find better work. In short the folks, young and old, that bag and bring the bags to your car earn good money overall. Give what you can/want, they won't pay taxes on it anyways.

You pay them alot more than I ever have. If I take out the bags myself say because I am going through express, I leave $1.
However if I have them go with me to the car I usually give them $2. If I am shopping around a holiday, $3. I have given $1 before when the bagger was just not talking or being somewhat rude.

I give $2. And that is PLENTY!!!!!!!!!!
It takes, at most, 5 minutes for them to walk outside. I don't know many jobs as simple as bagging groceries that make $2 for 5 minutes of work. I know I don't make that much!!! Depending on how many baggers there are, some baggers are bagging and then getting right back up there. If they do this constantly at my measly $2 for 5 minutes work, that is $24 an hour, TAX FREE!!!!!!!!!!!
I have had buddies who spouses bagged groceries and would bring home $75-$100 a night after 5 hours of bagging groceries!!!
I wish I made that!!

they suggest 25 cents per bag. we tip based on the size of the haul.. never less than 3 dollars if they carry the groceries out. but we also only go about once a month, so our stash is quite large in most cases.

$4.00 is entirely to much... if they work 6 hour shifts and everyone gave them $4 and they walked 4 people to their cars per hour.. then they would be making $4.00 every 15 minutes... $16.00 per hour
$96.00 per day nearly $500 per week of tax free dollars.... $2.00 will keep plenty money in their pocket and make them work harder for it... LoL.. Im just kidding.. I say be as generous as you like... noone is ever completely satisfied and most kids that work there are military brats that dont understand the value of hard work.. so they expect everyone to give them more than what they actually recieve..
