How to force a Windows XP shutdown?

My notebook works normally even when I try to shut it down. I've tried the same through the DOS command prompt. Nothing seems to be working.

It dosen't shut down properly but if you hold down the power button for five seconds it should turn off. That's with a laptop but I hope it helps!

XP shutdown /? will give you shut down options.

You can also open taks manger by typing taskmgr in the run box and pressing enter and do a shutdown from there.

Otherwise ytou will need to search for the offend process and do a end task in task manager.

    More info would help greatly

A way to force a shut down is to hold teh power button down until it shuts down.

If it's a reoccurring problem, however, then you need to reinstall Windows because you've somehow screwed up the registry. ~ace~
