I just got an ibm thinkcentre computer. Once in a while it will simply give a beep. ?

What is that beep? and how can I get rid of it, short of disconnecting the speaker.

Most likely, it's not coming from your speakers. It is from the system speak which is inside your computer. Try turning off your speakers. You should still get the beep. On start up one beep means everything is working fine. If you get more than one beep then you've got a hardware issue.

it could happen if you're hitting too many keys on the keyboard at the same time, for example in a first person shooter game
