I need help with my oil heating system...?

I just moved into my new house and learned that you have to constantly check the water level of the oil heater through the glass tube (I think its called a sight glass or something). I just went downstairs for a weekly check and it appears to be completely empty. I tried to turn the "water faucet" to increase the water, but when I do this the water remains the same. I don't see anything in the tube! What is going on? What should I do? Thanks. Oh, it is a steam system with radiators ect..

The level of your oil and the level of the water in the system are two different systems entirely. If there is a problem with the feed system for the water, this will shut off the fire. This is to prevent your boiler from overheating. You have some serious problems with your system, and should leave this to an expert. I do this for a living, and want you to call someone for help. Good luck.
