My fish went blind and died the next day...?
What happened to him? The water tested normal, the other fish are fine. I noticed that all of a sudden his eyes were clouded over and he was sitting on the bottom of the tank. He was one of the bigger fish and never got picked on by the others. Woke up the next day and he was dead. He was a dwarf guarami if that helps. Thanks in advance!
Tank has been set up since June/July. Cycled for about a week. Added a few fish a week after that. Mostly tetras, a few barbs, danios and two gouramis (now down to one). 1/4 of the water is changed every week, filter cartridges changed every 3-4 weeks. The tank is 29 gallon. Did not introduce any new fish recently.

White covering over the eyes is cloudy eye-a bacterial infection, usually brought on by poor water quality. Make sure ammonia and nitrites are at 0 ppm. Also check and make sure your ph levels are staying stable and not fluctuating around. I recall reading somewhere that large ph fluctuations can cause the skin to develop a white film.

Well, that depends. For you to get some good, valid answers, you will have to answer these questions for us.
How big is your tank?
How long did you cycle it, and how long has it been up after that?
How many other fish are in with it?
Did you add more than four fish at a time?
Without this information, it is hard to know what exactly happened to your fish, but the white film that was plastered over your fishes eye makes it seem like your fish did go blind.
Usually, fish will do fine with being blind in their tanks, as they have sensors which can help them navigate through it without banging into things.
It is possible that he went blind from a parasite, that did not show up in the nitrite/nitrate/pH/ammonia testing. Another possibility is that you introduced a sick fish recently into the tank that passed the disease onto your Gourami. It is best to treat the tank water with parasite killer, or else the said parasite that inhabits your tank at the moment will spread to your other fish.
Good luck!

Sorry to hear of this loss
I would recommend to buy some aquarium salt. This helps to improve your fishes vitality and colourfulness.
It also helps preventing disease.
Hope this is of use to you
