The Thought That Counts
In the story, “The Gift of the Magi,” by O. Henry, Della learns that the greatest gifts are not the ones that are costly, but ones that come from the heart. The dilemma that she faces is clearly noticed in this line, “Tomorrow would be Christmas Day, and she only had $1.87 with which to buy Jim a present,” (524). Obviously, Della feels as though she is incapable of getting Jim a satisfactory gift since she does not have a lot of money. By the end of the story, Della learns that it is the thought that counts, not the cost. Della’s fears are put to rest in this line, “‘Dell,’ he said, ‘let’s put our Christmas presents away and keep ‘em a while’” (530). Jim does not get angry over the fact that both of their gifts are now useless because he realizes that the price does not matter. The author therefore sends the message that the best gifts are the ones that come form the heart. In the end, Della learns that what makes a gift great is how much thought is put into it, not how
beautiful or expensive the gift is.

Sounds fine to me. One comment, on your parenthetical citations -- should the quote mark be on the outside? I'm not sure, been too long since I've done them, but unless you're sure, might be worth checking.
like this ...
"... to buy Jim a present (524)."

Dear Kat,
Your work is quite good just as it is. Just remember also that you are not allowed to change quotes even if the grammar or spelling is wrong. Your spelling is good but some of your word choices are a little "wobbly" such as you would not write lazy words like "a lot of" or "get" in written work but choose better descriptions Also you wrote form instead of from.
Here is my edited version:

Obviously, Della feels as though she is incapable of getting Jim a satisfactory gift since she does not have a great deal of money. By the end of the story, Della learns that it is the thought that counts, not the cost. Della’s fears are put to rest in this line, “‘Dell,’ he said, ‘let’s put our Christmas presents away and keep ‘em a while’” (530). Jim does not become angry over the fact that both of their gifts are now useless because he realizes that the price does not matter. Don't use contractions in your essay, and " 'em " should be "them".
"noticed in this line," ...to make it sound better, change it to "noticed, because,"
Just don't use "this line" before any quote. It doesn't flow right.
Also, it sounds a bit repetitive. There's little sentence variety. Although I see the theme is that it's the thought that counts over the cost...you might want to have different sentence structures for your topic and conclusion sentences. Just a thought.
Overall, nicely written. Better than half my classmates.. I assume you're a...fresh or soph in high school?

Work on comma splices and run-on sentences. In the first sentence delete the comma after costly, you dont need the comma after obviously, but u may have it, you use the theme it's the thought that counts way too much! It becomes too trite.
