Can I lose my daughter for her missing school?

I got a letter today from children and youth stating that I could lose my 10 year old for missing time....she did miss 18 days of school, but I have doctors notes for all but 3 days. She broke her foot and had a contagious virus....can they really get social services involved for this?

I take good care of my kids, they always have their homework done, they are never late for school.....can they do this?

Update:

I do have doctors notes for all but 4 days and with those 4 days there was a family emergancy.

It is just a threat to make you more attentive to your daughter's attendance. They can involve social services, but after your proof is presented and verified, no action will be taken other than you will be placed on a watch list. CPS has way too power. Most of which is not granted by law but allowed by the courts. It a a situation that cries for rectification.

If the school has been getting signed notes from you, and you have documentation from a physician, you should be all right. You need to some research for yourself to make sure you know where you stand. Look up Becca Bill. It sound like that is what you're being judged by.

Yes, if you don't have a doctor's note. Tell the school you want "Homebound Instruction" as she is ill....Good luck! If she has an excused absense, by law, the school has to give her a certain amount of time to allow her to make up the work.

Don't worry! If they give you grief, then call a lawyer and get them to call the school:)
