Should I see a doctor/chiropractor, or am I just over-reacting?

Okay, first thing, I'm 12. That might changes thing a little.

Today at gym we were playing and stupid game that involves a lot of sharp turns (not exactly my strongest point). I got cornered and when I dodged around someone to escape I pulled my back muscle, or something of the kind. Anyways, the left side of my lower back really hurts if I bend over or turn around. It's a very sharp pain and it only comes when I move. If I still, it mostly goes away. It's extremely uncomfortable. I took an ibuprofen a little while ago and it has yet to help much. Help/Advice?

It is a muscle strain, don't worry about it. Unless you have some low bone density disease, you don't need a doctor... give it a week if it still hurts go see someone.

I am a chiropractic intern (graduating in a few weeks).

Here is what you need to do.

First, let your parents know what happened.

Put Ice on the area. Do not leave it on for more than 15 minutes. This will help keep down the pain and swelling. Ice should be good for relieving pain for the first 24-48 hours.

If you are still feeling bad tomorrow morning, you should have your parents take you to a chiropractor. There is a strong possibility that you caused a misalignment in your back. The chiropractor should be able to realign your back.

In the meantime, ibuprofen/Motrin is a good anti-inflammatory, it should help a little bit.

If it the Pain becomes really sharp or if the area turns black and blue, get to a doctor asap.

I wish you the best of luck on this.

You just pulled a muscle and its going to hurt for a few days. Always make sure to stretch before doing activities like that.

People pull thigns all the time you do not need to run to the doctor/chiropractor and pay money for them to say your ok.

Not to mention at 12 you will bounce back like a rubber band.

Give it a few days, put a heat pack on it for 20 minutes off for 10 then a cold pack for 20 mintues off for 10, and some Advil or whatever you use for pain relief.

You will be better in a few days. Don't waste your money on the doctor specially since it JUST happened today, if it doesn't get better within a few weeks then seek medical help.

alternate putting ice and heat on it for 20 minutes each. if it is still hurting in a couple of days or if it gets much worse you may want to call your family doctor. sounds like a muscle strain and the ice and heat should help tremendously. most doctors won't prescribe anything for pain and a chiropractor only helps if it involves the bones

Ok, wow. Your 12? I'd just like to say that your grammar is pretty good for a 12 yr. old. But, going back to your problem...I would wait to see if the pain gets worse in a few days and if it does then go see a chiropractor.

Maybe wait a couple of days, and then see a doctor if the pain stays the same. It's not over-reacting, you could have really pulled something. It's covered under insurance anyway, why not

Put ice on it immediately and keep it on for the next few hours. You can use a bag of frozen beans, or just ice cubes in a bag.

Then, call the doctor and have that check as soon as possible.

Rest, don't move until you get checked. It might be serious or not, ut to be safe, ice, rest, and get checked out.

I would wait a few days before I went to a doctor. Usually if you pull a muscle it needs a few days to heal. If you cannot stand the pain, however, go to the doctor.

You've probably pulled a muscle, which will probably heal itself in a few days. However, when you pulled that muscle, there is a good chance that you pulled your back with it. It wouldn't hurt to go to a chiropractor to have him check and make sure your spinal column is okay.

dont think it will be getting any worse by not seeing a doctor immediately. See if you can deal for the pain for a day or 2 and then decide if its still bad enough to see a dr.
