My VCR & the upcoming HDTV change?

I guess this is a two part question. I have an older tv, we got the converter box (hasn't been hooked up yet) and I've watched the PBS info show on the upcoming change. My questions are this---

1. Since one signal is coming in via the converter box, does this mean that I can only record the station I will be watching to a video tape? That I can't record say channel 6 while I'm watching channel 4?

2. And the signal---will the VCR be able to record the new HD signal to a video tape after Feb. of 2009 or will my VCR NOT understand the signal and only give me gibberish? (My VCR is 4 years old).

These questions were never covered on the show and nobody has been able to give me a solid answer.

    1. One signal is leaving the convertor box to be exact; the channel which you have tuned it to. With one convertor box and an analog only video recorder, yes, it will have to record what you are watching.

To watch and record separate channels, you need two convertor boxes, one for the VCR to record from, one to watch direct.

    2. A convertor box will output SD analog video, which your VCR will record and play fine.

There will be no analog RF signal for it to tune direct; you will get a "no Signal" screen or something to that effect, if you try to tune the old channel or the actual digital transmitter.

  • The upcoming change has nothing to do with HDTV.On February 17,2009 the signal will be changed from analog to digital. This change only applies to people who watch (OTA) over the air broadcasting with an antenna. This change does not affect cable and satellite viewers. That's why you will need the digital to analog converter box connected to your old TV.HDTV and digital are two different things one has nothing to do with the other. To answer your first question: No you will not be able to record channel 6 while you are watching channel 4.Second question:Your VCR should be able to record the new digital signal.

nicely, this is lots extra sparkling for one element. And definitely i won't be in a position to circulate returned to gazing SD channels because of the fact some SD channels trim off the perimeters of the image. an excellent style of the time i don't see the educate score (television PG, television 14 . . . etc.). in spite of everything i'm happy I very own an HDTV. I watch an excellent style of exhibits: - abode M.D., penitentiary harm, gray's Anatomy, Heroes, Chuck . . . etc. and that i've got all of my interior of sight channels in HD and gazing those exhibits in HD is basically mind-blowing. I used to clutter with the antenna as quickly as I used to very own an SDTV because of the fact it would get somewhat blurry and all yet not extra of that. I extraordinarily advise which you get an HDTV because of the fact as quickly as you very own an HDTV you isn't disillusioned. as nicely, this is unlike you have a decision I mean in February 19 2009 all television declares would be digital and to recieve digital channels you will choose the two an HDTV or a reciever. maximum folk will finally improve their television to HD. good luck in figuring out pal! Oh, additionally in case you do plan to purchase an HDTV get them now collectively as there's a sale happening. And while you're actually not waiting to make the swap get them next 12 months, i'm specific they would be lots extra fee-effective by utilising then.
