Creationists, what do you find so distressing about evolving from the same ancestor as apes?

I've heard a lot of derisive comments about science, mocking the very idea that one could be genetically related to a monkey.

Even if you don't believe it - and, for the record, that's perverse - why do you perceive it as an insult or a threat??

Update:

Please note that it clearly stated as a premise in the question that we share a common ancestor with apes rather than descending from them.

Update 2:

~G C - Really? You really don't accept that you're genetically related to your mother and yet have different fingerprints and unique, although related, DNA? I don't want to be cruel, but I don't think you have a basic understanding of biology.

I can't help laugh at the naive answers you got. If we had common ancestors with apes our life would have no purpose?!? WTF? What kind of world do you live in?

It usually helps a lot to see what is going on in other parts of the world. If you look at Europe, for instance -- which is where most Americans' ancestors come from by the way -- the very vast majority of people accept evolution without any problem. Even the Pope agrees.

Why do you assume that the two positions are, in any way, incompatible? As a devoutly religious person I have no doubt of divine origin of the Universe, I also believe that when the Gods created the Universe they also created Natural Law, and that the process of Natural Selection is part of that. This means that evolution would be the mechanism by which the act of creation, in all it's diversity, was achieved.

Science and Religion are not and never have been in conflict, the only conflict is between science and the people who use religion as a tool for achieving secular political and financial power. Those people have a vested interest in opposing anything that calls their infallibility into question. If they can be wrong about evolution they can be wrong about other things, and if that is true why should anyone assume they're right about anything? Deprived of their cloak of Divine Authority the contributions might dry up, and then the Priests might have to actually get real jobs, and we can't have that now can we?

Genetic concept. DNA mediates shape and overall performance for this reason creatures of comparable morphology and physique shape might have extra comparable DNA than creatures with much less comparable morphology and physique shape. what's spoke of is totally defined via Genetic concept. Evolutionary concept provides not something so making use of the scientific theory of parsimony the pointless assumptions further via the Evolutionary style must be dropped. interestingly Richard Dawkins isn't so clever in spite of everything, if he have been he might comprehend time-honored regulations of data in technology.

"Because it means we're the same as those "low" animals! OMG!"

Evolution cannot disprove god. One can believe in a god and believe in evolution. Why would believing in evolution be an insult to your god, since they can coexist (I think Catholicism teaches that evolution is correct?)

Evolution is true and easy to prove. All you need is predator, prey, and a small hiding area. And a fishtank. Evolution that is very observable within your lifetime.

Or birds and only one source of food.

Salem: That's not logical. I have no god, yet I am moral and I can think for myself. I have no god, yet I am compassionate and kind, because my parents taught me to be, and their parents before them.

"Before i became a christian i enjoyed fighting so so much. And sex with any women i wanted. and the drugs and the drinking."

That's your problem, not ours. I'm an atheist, and do I take part in the events you mentioned? No, I didn't and am not.

We did not evolve from apes, we are a type of ape. We share a common ancesor who lived millions of years ago with the other apes.

What's distressing about this concept is the fact that people use pseudo-science and fake evidence to prove it, then call it the "scientific method." As a computer programmer, I find it VERY distressing that people would actually plant evidence that either they or someone else can dig up later. Just about every one of the skeletons used to prove evolution has been demonstrated to be fraudulent, from the piltdown man, to java man, lucy, nebraska man, etc. In fact, one such pile of () was built from the tooth of a boar - a WILD PIG! Even neanderthal man has been shown to be nothing but an old person stooped over with arthritis!

And they pass this on as "scientific"! That is VERY distressing. Lies passed on as truth! Makes me sick to think that I'm part of the same human race with these phonies!

Do you really want to be a descendant of a monkey more than a man? I think that is way more perverse than saying i am a descendant of a man. It's just plain weird.

What they find so distressing is if evolution is true then everlasting life isn't. Their greatest fear is that they will die and not live forever with their deity.

I've never understood why coming from a pile of dirt is supposed to be better than being descended from other primates.
