What factors were most important in Obama's election victory?

Contrary to many think, the Obama campaign turned race into an advantage in the campaign.

The mainstream media is heavily Democratic, driven by NE liberals, who were totally in love with the idea of "the first black president" and from the minute he announced, they couldn't mention his name without saying "the first black president" and "how wonderful that would be" in the eyes of the world, yada yada.

They PROMOTED the idea.

The Obama campaign played the race card early and often as a tool and a weapon.

They used it through surrigates and by Obama himself until it took hold.

It became so common that many supporters openly held the belief that the ONLY reason that someone would vote against Obama would be because of his race.

Yes, there are racists in America who won't vote for a black.

But there are also those who won't vote for a woman, a pro-life candidate, a Mormon, a Jew, a Catholic, an Italian, a Southerner, and lots of other things.

There are also many people who will actively vote FOR a black as evidenced by the unusually HIGH turnout and percentage of vote among blacks for Obama.

There was also a "white guilt" factor of people who wanted to vote for a black to make themelves feel better that they personally were not racists.

Obama likely gained as many, if not more, votes because he was black than had he been whte.

Many try to use as "evidence" of "racism" that certain Southern States voted for McCain. That's BS.

They rarely vote Democrat in presidential elections. They would not have voted for a Democrat in any case so his being black or white made no difference even if the entire white population had been (just exaggerating here) members of the Ku Klux Klan - which they aren't. They're just conservatives who don't vote for Democrats at the presidential level.

That's where your "ideology" comes in for your paper.

Guns, abortion, anti-military, raising taxes, too much government, they don't trust the government, Democrats are seen as anti-religion, etc.

They'll keep voting center-right.

Oddly, most of the skinhead and KKK-type groups are now headquartered in the North and Mid-west which went for Obama.

These groups are small and pathetic.

As you can see, they have little influence. They rant on the internet.

The FBI and other law enforcement keeps an eye on them - except in the voting booth and there's not enough of them to make a differnce.

Obama won despite them.

As the Clinton campaign said in 1992, "It's the economy, stupid."

The economy was the primary factor in this election. But I will always have to wonder about the role of John Edwards. He was not going to win his party's nomination, but he siphoned off a lot of Hillary votes. He was clearly a decoy candidate.

The Democrats spent a lot of time and money organizing their party and their voters. I think the Republicans spent more time on "Hope."

John McCain is not regarded as a true Republican, nor is he a conservative. When it comes to politicians, "maverick" is really a euphemism for "unreliable." You can't count on him to support your party's values. Today, it's hard to determine what those values are.

In any event, the election is over. Barack Obama won fair and square. We, all of us, need to support him, to give him a chance to restore our nation's prosperity. Those who, for whatever reason, hope or think he will fail, are rooting for a weaker and a poorer America. It only takes a few negatives to offset a lot of positives.

Whether we like it or not, Barack Obama will be our president on January 20th. He needs our support, as we need his. He will either lead us back to prosperity and into the pits of hell. Let's make sure it's the former, not the latter.

If human beings like the way subject matters are going they are going to vote Obama back. The dems had finished administration for 2 years and they did now not something. quite of Socialist variety health care they went with corporatist health care and enable the reassurance businesses write the bill and all we've been given grew to grow to be a sparkling tax and that grew to grow to be all Democrat. If human beings like spending billions in wars to assist rebels that ought to or isn't Al Qaeda then Obama will win back. If human beings like wall highway and the banks having administration then they are going to vote Obama back. If the persons like no bid contracts to haliburton they are going to vote Obama back. So if human beings like each and each and every of that and bigger then Obama will win in a landslide. If liberals are literally not hypocrites then Obama will lose Jimmy Carter variety.

The way the country has been going the past 8 years was a huge determining factor. He didn't really have to do a lot because the idiots in charge now helped him tremendously.

The overall winning factor was the fact that people are tired of seeing our country continue on a downward spiral and the powers that be did nothing as millions of people lost their homes, jobs, health care, retirement accounts etc etc etc !

The economic downturn. Any reasonable democratic candidate would have won. At the end of the day, after all the discussion, people vote based on their own economic situation.

Most important factors:

1) He was a Democrat.

2) Republicans did a VERY poor job over the past 8 years.

These two trumped experience. The mood of the electorate was for change, and his race was a positive signifier for change.
