Christians...what was the point of God creating the world?

Think about this. God could have just put everybody into Heaven without freewill and everyone would have been happy. Instead, He creates the universe and puts us on a relatively small planet and gives us freewill so that He can test us.

Let's say you die and go to Heaven. Can you sin in Heaven? If not, that means you don't have freewill in Heaven.

Now, according to Revelations, the Earth will be destroyed after Jesus returns. According to some Christian Creationists, the Earth is 6000 years old and a 1000 years is like a day to God. Now let's say Jesus comes back soon. That would mean that God created the world and gave us freewill for one week (one week to Him) and then destroyed the world and took away our freewill.

If that's the case, why create the world at all? Why not just send everyone to Heaven and be done with it?

Update:

cd...if He hadn't given us freewill, we couldn't have sinned and, therefore, would have been perfect without needing Christ.

Update 2:

paulp...But the Bible says we are with God when we go to Heaven, so if He just sent us straight to Heaven, we'd have a relationship with Him anyway.

By the way, I'm an atheist-leaning agnostic. I'm just speaking hypothetically.

Update 3:

NoWhereMan...it says in Revelations 21:27 that "nothing unclean shall enter it [Heaven]". Sin would be unclean, therefore, I would take that to mean there would be no sin in Heaven.

Even if there is freewill in Heaven, my point still applies, as there is not the opportunity to commit sin. God could have sent us straight to Heaven without putting us first in a situation where we are tempted by sin.

Update 4:

Whole Armor of God...if there is no sin in Heaven and it is a sin not to worship God, then wouldn't we be forced to worship Him? Even if everyone does WANT to worship Him, we still wouldn't have the freewill to choose NOT to believe in Him.

Update 5:

Also, you say only those who want to worship God go to Heaven, but if God had put us directly into Heaven instead of putting us on Earth with the Tree of Knowledge, then there would have been no original sin and we'd all want to worship God. Heaven would be exactly the same, only everyone would be there.

Update 6:

madmarv...please explain why God couldn't have put us directly into Heaven.

Update 7:

Romans + Matthew....you say "Your logic is off. You assume that to choose is to sin. That's not true. We can choose to sin, or not sin." I'm not saying choice is to sin. I'm saying if we don't have the option to sin in Heaven, then we don't really have choice.

You also say "Scripture says that heaven is Eden restored and, everything in the world will be restored to as it was before sin entered the world." You are completely missing the point. Why didn't God just put us directly in Heaven with no possibility to sin rather than putting us into Eden, where we could be tempted and led to sin?

Furthermore, you say "Evolution teaches that the flood mentioned in Genesis didn't happen. That's why they claim that the Earth is billions of years old." Evolution has nothing whatsoever to do with the age of the world. We get the age of the world from geology, cosmology, paleontology, chemistry, astrophysics, geophysics, and biology.

Update 8:

Endless Mountain...what do you base your beliefs on? I agree that we created the concept of "sin". I also agree that humans are progressing and that we should help each other. I just don't see the need to believe in a deity to accomplish this. I see no evidence of a deity and especially no evidence that we know the nature of such a deity or what He/She/It wants. By the way, I said Christian Creationists believe the Earth is 6000 years old, I don't believe that myself.

because he does not want robots

he wants people to worship him freely because they want to not because they are forced to.

No one who wants to sin will be allowed in heaven.

Only those who freely want to worship God and never sin again will be in heaven. So yes we have free will to worship god because we want to.

No he did not take away our free will by destroying the earth. The earth will never be destroyed. No people can still choose to rebel against God.

We live in america and we are suppose to be free. But how can we be free if we have laws to obey. If we break a law in the USA we lose our freedom. So how can we say we are really free if we have to obey laws?

We are free because the Laws make us free. The same way with God to truly be free we need to obey the laws of God.

  • Why don't you ask God on Judgment Day?

    For the Scriptures say,

"'As surely as I live,' says the LORD,

'every knee will bend to me,

and every tongue will confess and give praise to God.'"

Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God.

    -Romans 14:11-12

Heaven is a place where there will be no more sin, according to Scripture. Anything that is not Holy will not be in heaven. Your logic is off. You assume that to choose is to sin. That's not true. We can choose to sin, or not sin.

Scripture says that heaven is Eden restored and, everything in the world will be restored to as it was before sin entered the world. That means that those who have Jesus Christ will be in heaven with no more sin.

Evolution teaches that the flood mentioned in Genesis didn't happen. That's why they claim that the Earth is billions of years old. For those who believe that the flood DID occur (creationists) the Earth would only be around 6000 years old.

The cataclysmic events that took place during the flood caused the Earth's appearance to radically change. That's why unless you are a firm believer in the flood, Earth would appear to be so old.

The part of your message where you are quoting 2nd Peter 3:8, your logic is off. You see, in the context of that verse, the Apostle Peter is talking about the Day of the Lord's return.

Peter was reasurring the people that:

"The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare."

    -2 Peter 3:8-10

The two verses that you quoted have nothing to do with each other. Good question, though.

Yes, we have always had free will, and those who go to heaven or hell will continue to have free will.

No offense, but by asking Christians you are asking those whom would probably know less than others in the sense, we are on this planet to help everybody, not just labels in which humans have placed. I don't think god tests us, more than observes us. You say sin and that is another thing humans have made. Humans decided that when we brake these rules we sin. Well, these things happen naturally and not only is set that they can happen but be assured that they will happen. Humans are slowly and surely getting better at doing better things. This will continue as that is the way we are made. As far as what we call sins, yes we do that in heaven, but those are fine and normal to do. In fact because the graduated cave men decided that when they did these bad things to each other, that this would mean that the individuals at that time thought it was best to say that we are not aloud to do this. They didn't like it so they implemented laws about this. The truth is humans have not proved by any means what God does or does not want to have happen. Sins are something you made up for God does not command anything out of you. You have free will and you are your own rule maker, so it is good to know universal laws like the Law of Karma and you get back what you send out (law of attraction). It has taken a while for us humans to figure this out, but we are coming along strong. You say the Earth is 6,000 years and yet your scientists have proven otherwise that it is longer, so you may want to check which you think is true by logic of what our brains can do. The reason we just can't go to heaven is because we have to experience what he has crated experimentally. There is one big outcome that will happen, and it will be great. Be thankful you are a big part of the outcome. Great question

I don't usually teach bible online, but in this case I will.If GOD never created man on earth,we would not be here or there in heaven. No sin in heaven or freewill there either. You talking about the 7 seals being opened and the plagues upon the earth. The world will not be destroyed, only one third of the population will. The world itself was not destroyed only man and all life by the plagues. The world is millions of yrs old not 6000yrs.GOD created man for something he didn't have in heaven, variety. The angels in heaven knew only two things, worship and singing GODs praises. When GOD created man,he wanted man to be different. He wanted their love and obedience but only one thing stood in the way (EVE) When both left the garden and was (so called) locked out then freewill came into play along with woman's curse. The first sin came into play which was murder introduced by cain.Need I go on?

When you go to heaven, you are made perfect. Who says you can't sin? where did you find that? Do you actually know, did you find it in the bible? I'm not saying its not there, but I'm not going to say it is either. Look it up.

It is my belief that you would not want to sin, and nothing will be there to tempt you anyway. Free will is a beautiful thing, he created us with the ability to make good choices and bad

ones. But the fact that we can make the good ones, tells us alot about our God.

Tell me, would you if you went to heaven, after understanding everything and knowing truth, and not have any reason to do evil because of selfish reason, sin? So who says there is not free will in heaven?

I just think we would be less special, were it not for our experience on earth. We are his greatest creation, and I think the fact that he kinda made us our own Gods on earth, was his way of maybe showing us that we need him, and that we can achieve great things by ourselves.

Even though I have learned many, many things both by reading the scriptures and from my life experiences about the purpose of life, I STILL have this question at least similar to the one you have -- WHY? Why are we here?

I do think that the freedom to choose our agency -- whether we will do good or whether we will do evil -- is at the very basic explanation of the purpose of earth life. In other words, "God could just put everybody into heaven" simply, simply is not true in terms of the structure of the multi-metaverse and our structure as beings.

By the way, God isn't going to hand out heaven and hell after death. Each individual right now is choosing themselves into, becoming, creating heaven or hell right now. And whatever course they continue with is the one they can expect to also experience in the eternities.

You may enjoy the information that can be found at mormon.org.

Oh, yea, I don't think the earth will be destroyed, the planet won't be. The WORLD will be destroyed -- with all its oppression and violence -- and a world of peace will be created by God and those of us who want to participate (start now!).

God created adam and eve in the garden of Eden. the sins began when eve and adam ate the apple(fruit), and that is why God got mad, and kicked them out of the garden. There was no sins, or the knowledge of it. God told them at first that they can eat in all the trees, except one. He told them that if they eat from it they would die.But when satan lied to eve and adam, he told them that if the do eat the fruit, they will be like God. Know everything, and all.

Bur since they didn't die, i think that God meant that they will be given like a capital punishment(like women giving natural birth in pain and men working hard to feel their families). So that s why we'e taught that sin in death.unless you are saved and go to heaven, sin will open the doors to hell for us.

if adam and eve didn't sin, there would be none of this things you see and hear, and experience these days. we wouldnt have to work, cook, or suffer, death, etc, but just internal happiness all the way.

God created the world for us. God sent Jesus Christ into the world for us. This life has a purpose. The purpose of this life is for each of us to learn to become more like God. We need to learn that before we can live with him in heaven. Look at Matt 5:48.

48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

We need to learn to make good choices. Jesus Christ came into the world and taught us how to live. He also led by example. He was sinless and selfless in helping others. We need to be loving to everyone, even to our enemies. Christ also took our sins onto himself. When our sins are taken away, we become sinless and worthy to live in God's presence. Only through Christ is that possible. He is the bridge between God and man and allow's us to enter into God's presence. Christ allows us to become like God. That's why He created the world. So we could learn to become like Him. If he is our father, doesn't he want us to have everything he has? Read Romans 8:16-17.

16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

The answer to your question IS the Gospel of the Kingdom of God. That promise is all through the Bible. I will give some verses here:

Psa 82:6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.

Joh 10:34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods

    Joh 10:35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the Scripture cannot be broken;

Joh 10:36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?

This truth has been hidden because of the misunderstanding and misuse of the term "born again". 1Co 15:50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. This verse shows that a physical body can not enter the Kingdom. 1Co 15:51 Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be CHANGED, The physical body has to be changed to a spiritual body. This was even known in Old Testament times. Job 14:14 If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my CHANGE come.

Job 14:15 Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands. THIS is what being "born again" means! Nicodemus was an educated ruler when Christ was here and he asked Jesus about it. Joh 3:4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus explained. Joh 3:6 That which is born of the flesh IS flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit IS spirit.

Then He tried to give the man an example of a spirit being. Joh 3:8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

This is why baptism is so important. We are conceived as a spirit being when we receive the Holy Spirit at baptism. It is after this conception that we will be "born again". Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Joh 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the SONS OF GOD, even to them that believe on his name:

Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the SONS OF GOD.

Rom 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

Rom 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the CHILDREN OF GOD:

Rom 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also GLORIFIED TOGETHER. Notice verse 16. This is why Satan HAD to start the false doctrine of the trinity. A "closed" Godhead. No more members. "Spirit" is power of mind. Job 32:8 But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.

"Understanding" is the clue here. So the meaning of verse 16 in Romans 8 is that God's mind, shows our mind that we are His children.

Heb 2:10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing MANY SONS UNTO GLORY, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

Heb 2:11 For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them BRETHREN,

The Apostles knew all of this. Can you imagine, when it wasn't words any more. When they saw, talked to and handled the resurrected Jesus. That's why all 12 were willing to suffer martyrdom. John was the one spared from it. He still had a job to do. The Gospel was not "lost" as the Mormons claim. It was here all along and just not being proclaimed. Jesus really did found His church and it wasn't the famous bully that killed His people. I don't even know if you are really interested or not. I don't know if God is calling you with understanding or not. I'm just answering your question.

Good question. If God gave us free will to chose between good and evil, that means evil must have a purpose in God's plans. That means he is responsible for it. You can't blame it on Satan, either. God apparently gave Satan such a choice, too.
