an american senator who broached this issue was ridiculed and pilloried by george dubyas administration for saying

why should we bail the banks out,we wouldnt bail out a corner shop, the government would let them sink,

interesting issue gordon brown agreed with bush, bail out the fat cats (continue their obscene bonuses)and let the other firms go bust.while banks have stopped lending the public money.

Northern Rock(govt owned)has this week put up their interest rate charges to borrowers,if the govt cannot control Northern Rock what chance HBOS and the others?

Woolies is an international institution and should be preserved i feel, but fear it wont be

Sadly another great british institute will be lost. Woolies was once the working class place to shop but people can buy their items a lot cheaper elsewhere. Maybe if they could undercut and have new policies then it could stay around.

Woolies is the first of many high street stores to go in the next 18 months. It is unlikely a buyer will be found.

It would be nice if it stayed - but they need some younger/fresh blood in helping to run the company.

Sadly Woolies is no longer one of the cheapest places to buy stuff - it is now known for been one of the most expensive.

It should stay- the more competition on the high street the better in terms of being a consumer. But it does need a major revamp and needs to actually BE competition, not just try to lure people in with non existant bargains.

It would be great if it stayed, but it is one of those shops where you don't go for a specific range of items - i mean what can you get uniquely at Wooly's that you can't anywhere else?

It's not a matter of if it should stay or go; it is a matter of whether the administrators can trade it out of it's financial problems, or sell it off to another company, or have to liquidate it.

woollies is an icon to many , but if it doesn't make money or is badly run then it deserves to die like everything else
