My dog has a growth on her head - cancer? (pictures included)?
I have a cocker spaniel who is about 9 years old now. It was discovered around 4 or 5 months ago when her hair was clipped, the woman accidentaly caught it on clippers causing it to bleed, not realising it was there. In the last month it has grown dramatically and is now around the size of a 5p coin. It does not appear to be causing her any pain. The new tissue looks a light pink colour and the old looks black. She is now showing any other symptoms at the moment and seems to be eating and drinking normally. She has another on her neck the same size...should we be worried?

We didn't take her to the vets before because we assumed it was simply warts due to her old age. They were so small and she didn't appear to have any other symptoms - thats why.
Thank you for all your help, we will take her to the vets tomorrow.
I love her to bits - I hope she will be ok, I don't know what I will do without her.

All kinds of virus links have been posted on here lately.
Without looking at the photos, I can be pretty secure in saying that the dog needs to be examined by the vet, not a bunch of strangers on the net.
Call first thing tomorrow and explain the situation and ask for the next available appointment.
Can I ask why the dog wasn't brought in 4-5 months ago??????

You do need to show this to the vet - but be prepared to hear that it's probably one of many that will pop up in her old age - it looks like an adenoma.
Any time you discover a new growth, you should react a lot faster - there are aggressive cancers that can literally pop up over the space of a few days, that can be removed in time - but not if you wait for 4 months. Any growth is worrisome until it is pronounced slo growing or benign.

By looking at the picture it may be a growth or maybe something different. Nothing can be determined for sure. The only way to put your mind at rest is to see your vet. Only your vet can tell you what is wrong. Even if it is not hurting your dog, or bothering your dog, it could still be something that needs to be checked. So i suggest you see a vet =]

Get your dog to a vet, I am a dog trainer & this is not okay. Anything that is still growing, and turning a dark color is not okay. Anytime you feel a lump regardless of any other symptoms, go to the vet. By the time other symptoms come, the problem could worsen & worsen. Good luck love.

I was just reading about MCTs (mast cell tumors) last night actually. One characteristic of MCTs is the tendency for them to change in size, even on a daily basis. You should definintely have it checked out to make sure it's not cancerous -- if you wait until your dog is experiencing other symptoms, it's most likely spread by then.

The first thing you should do is take her to a vet. Or at least call your vet. That is always the first step. by the time sympoms show up it could be a lot worse

There is no way to tell if it is cancerous. A vet has to do a biopsy. Go to the vet.
