question about semi auto recoil spring?
just got my walther p22, and i'm using a cable lock (untill i can get a trigger lock)
so my question is, will leaving the slide locked back weaken the recoil spring at all?
yes, i dont like how they work either.. and i really dont like walther's keyed trigger lock.. i dont trust it.. this little guy will be in a locked safe too
why it's in the safe with the cable lock is because my dad said so..
basically, if he isnt happy with how i store/handle my firearms, i dont get ammo
yeah, i do live with my dad.. but it's not what you think..
i'm only 14, and he trusts me to keep it in my room, so, if he wants it locked up like a serial murderer, than that's how i'll keep it

If it is in a safe, why use a cable lock at all?
But no, it won't hurt the spring. Modern metallurgy has pretty much cured the worries about a spring taking a "set" or losing power.

In theory, no it will not harm the spring to leave it compressed.
Just me personally, I have never cared for cable locks for the reason of having it run through the slide like it does. I would prefer a trigger lock, or a safe instead.

The spring will not be affected as it's repeated compression and release that cause it to loose strength. So no. It's like when you fully load a magazine, not going to hurt it.
And again if it's in a safe why use a lock. I've lost all but one and it's a padlock I use on the backyard gate at my house. Do you live with your dad or is he just one of the many gun ignorant people who let their emotions get the best of them.

Several stores sell lockable pistol cases, Ask Dad if that would be Okay instead of the whole trigger/slide lock thing.
