1 cm dilated and 90% effaced, oh and 37 weeks.?

I really want to have this baby soon. I am so miserable, I don't want to ask to be induced because I think my baby girl wants out too. Any ideas on how to get her to make her debut?

Plus does 90% effaced mean anything to anyone?

Update:

My doctor said if I went into labor today my baby would be fine. She said anything after 36 weeks is FULL TERM!

If you are 90% effaced and 1 cm dialated I'd say you are in early labor. 90% effaced means your cervix is thinned considerably. Dialation to 1 is minimal, but this all points to you giving birth soon. Good luck...

With my first I was 1cm dilated, then 2, then 3 and I stayed at three for almost three weeks before I delivered at 38 weeks and 4 days. I am currently 37 weeks and 5 days with my second and I went to the doctor yesterday....Im 80 % effaced and FOUR CENTIMETERS and here I sit without a contraction in sight. I hate to say it, but it could still be a while!

Cervical effacement takes place before or during early labor. During pregnancy, your cervix is long and tightly closed, during the last few weeks of pregnancy, it thins out on a percentage scale. This, like many other labor signs can mean labor is emminent, or still weeks away. As for the 1cm dilated, some women go their entire pregnancy 1cm dilated. So, I'm sorry to not give you the answer you're looking for, but it could mean you'll have your baby soon, or still in a few weeks. There's really no telling.

Well, it's a good thing that you don't want to be induced. However, there is nothing saying you will have this baby "soon", other than when you're due. You're just at term, and could easily go another 3+ weeks. You can be dilated and not even know it for months.

chill out you've waited more than 8 months what's a few more days. I can deffinetly understand how tired and fatigued you must be at this point but that last thing you need is for this child to come out with underdeveloped lungs and enducing labor is about the only way to have your daughter make her debut. if you are a first time mom, your cervix will usually efface before it dilates. If you are a second time mom, your cervix will usually dilate before effacement.

You're still only 37 weeks, have patience, you don't want to force your baby out into the world before she's ready. I know the last few weeks of pregnancy are tiring and you just want it over with, but how guilty would you feel if you force her out too early?

Yes, 37 weeks is "full term" but every baby is an individual, hence the reason some women have their babies before their "due date" and some go waaaay over. Some women just take longer for their babies to get ready to make an appearance. Your gestational date is simply an estimate, it can be out two weeks either way. I'm not saying your baby will definitely not cope being born at 37 weeks, many babies do, but wouldn't you rather let your baby and your body decide when it's time to give birth?

90% effaced means your cervix is thinned out 90% of the way.

We had the same problem last time around and apparently all of the following were supposed to work but unfortunately didn't in our case!

    - have sex (chemicals in semen apparently stimulate it)

    - have a curry/chilli (irritates the bowels & forces it out)

    - drive down a bumpy road (makes it uncomfortable so it wants to come out!)

    - exercise (as vigorous as is safe!)

    Fingers crossed for you x

Just eat lots of hot curries, have lots of hot sex!! and try and do some walking

    Good luck

You can be like this for another few weeks. Especially if this is your first baby. Relax....get some rest ....you'll need it!
