what areas/ streets to stay away from in Pittsburgh, pa?

my boyfriend got into duquesne law school and we are looking at different apartments for us to move in to if he decides that he wants to go there....

are there any particular apartment complexes...particular streets...particular surrounding nearby towns....to absolutely stay away from..due to a safety problem?

and also if there are any particular areas you all would recommend looking at to live....it would be a huge help

thanks guys

If I was you, I;d live in Squirrel Hill, and take a bus down Forbes to Duquesne. It's a straight shot, will take little more than a half hour. You get good shops plus restaurants, and buses to town are easy.

Pgh is underrated. It's a friendly town.

Wow contrary to what the first kid said Pittsburgh is a great city. Where Duquesne is located it is not the best place to stay. Right there is the hill district which is one of the unsafest neighboorhoods. It isn't 100% bad, but I really wouldnt recomend it. If you have money you could stay at the Pennsylvanian located right downtown. The South Side. It is safe, but im going to warn you that it is really a college area with a lot of bars and he may not want to live there since he will be busy studying. Threre is Oakland which is also a college area. Shadyside is a bit more pricey but I def. would recommend it. Also Squirrel hill. Look up these areas on mapquest to see if it would be reasonable to you to drive there. I don't know about your transportation issue. Also look into the suburbs. The North Hills (places around McKnight Road are a bit farther, but will be good to live. Good Luck & you will love Pittsburgh.
