In the Book there is an Orc captain Named Gothmog who is one "Bad Mother" There isn't a lot of detail about him but that freaky cat looking dude was meant to represent him in a way. I was severely disappointed in his appearance, and Richard Taylor of Weta Workshops says the same thing in an interview. But you can look up Gothmog online and see waht is said about his past...
