Do you believe there are consequences for forgiven sins?

Consider this to be a survey to understand the various beliefs of Christians across the board.

Scriptural references would be helpful.

The Catholic Church teaches, and I believe firmly, that there are consequences even for forgiven sins.

The Bible indicates some punishments are eternal, lasting forever, but others are temporal. Eternal punishment is mentioned in Daniel 12:2: "And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life and some to shame and everlasting contempt."

We normally focus on the eternal penalties of sin, because they are the most important, but Scripture indicates temporal penalties are real and go back to the first sin humans committed: "To the woman he said, ‘I will greatly multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children (Gen. 3:16).

Temporal Penalties May Remain When a Sin is Forgiven

When someone repents, God removes his guilt (Is. 1:18) and any eternal punishment (Rom. 5:9), but temporal penalties may remain. One passage demonstrating this is 2 Samuel 12, in which Nathan the prophet confronts David over his adultery:

"Then David said to Nathan, ‘I have sinned against the Lord.’ Nathan answered David: ‘The Lord on his part has forgiven your sin; you shall not die. But since you have utterly spurned the Lord by this deed, the child born to you must surely die’" (2 Sam. 12:13-14). God forgave David but David still had to suffer the loss of his son as well as other temporal punishments (2 Sam. 12:7-12). (For other examples, see: Numbers 14:13-23; 20:12; 27:12-14.)

Protestants realize that, while Jesus paid the price for our sins before God, he did not relieve our obligation to repair what we have done. They fully acknowledge that if you steal someone’s car, you have to give it back; it isn’t enough just to repent. God’s forgiveness (and man’s!) does not include letting you keep the stolen car.

Protestants also admit the principle of temporal penalties for sin, in practice, when discussing death. Scripture says death entered the world through original sin (Gen. 3:22-24, Rom. 5:12). When we first come to God we are forgiven, and when we sin later we are able to be forgiven, yet that does not free us from the penalty of physical death. Even the forgiven die; a penalty remains after our sins are forgiven. This is a temporal penalty since physical death is temporary and we will be resurrected (Dan. 12:2).

of direction there are. it incredibly is the reason God would not want us to do them in the 1st place. each and each sin has a effect. some we see (like homicide and existence in detention center) and a few we don't (like adultery). God says do no longer do those issues so which you would be able to have a extra physically powerful existence. So enable us to maintain away and if all of us know God ask him to steer and save us from those issues. So sure, we are forgiven yet we nevertheless ought to attend to the implications of our movements. it incredibly is the reason it incredibly is annoying for an atheist to comprehend God. they think of being forgiven of the sin takes away the effect and it would not. Many murderers will die being forgiven yet for the effect of their movements. we are to dodge getting below the impact of alcohol, no longer eating. For if we are below the impact of alcohol we are able to finally end up having intercourse and with a new child. And this could ensue male or lady. The male nevertheless created a new child with the female. We make undesirable selections while below the impact of alcohol, so dodge this and have a extra physically powerful existence, so God says. bless you and digital mail in case you like/want extra.

  • We must be pure in order to enter the Kingdom. However, the good thief Dismus, kind of stole his way into heaven, because he believed that Jesus was unjustly accused of a crime He didn't commit. We do not know what is on the mind of God. I believe we must atone for our mistakes, whether it be now or later. Why have punishments for your children, when they do something bad, Why have prisons for someone who commits a crime. Why not just slap their hand and send them on their merry way. God punished Cain when Cain killed his brother Abel.

He also punished Moses after he got his people to the promise land, by not allowing him to enter, for breaking the tablets of the 10 Commandments. Like I said, we do not know what's on God's mind. God bless you.

BTW the consequences for Moses for breaking the tables, which angered God, was he couldn't enter the promise land. God did forgive Moses , but this was his punishment.

1 Peter 4:17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of GOD: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the Gospel of GOD? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of GOD commit the keeping of their souls to Him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

Please consider that judgment must begin at the house of GOD and if judgment, then consiquences? Another reference states that if we are judged in this life, then shall we escape the judgment of GOD.

Yes but that is kind of obvious even if you are not relgious.

You drink and drive and kill someone there are consequences ( ie going to jail).

Of course not every sin has consequences

It's obvious... if you divorce your wife, and break up your family and she marrys another man... and you repent... oh well... she's already remarried... and your kids now have a broken home.

You have to live with the earthly consequences of your sin even though God has forgiven you.

You can easily be forgiven for anything. However, forgiveness does not cancel out the deed and its consequences.

    Only Purgatory.

But, that is only a temporal state, before being admitted into the Kingdom of Heaven.

I think it ridiculous to believe that you can go around doing bad things and think that all will be forgiven for those "sins" if you confess. People need to know that what comes around goes around. Be nice and live your ethically.
