My dwarf does this too, I got her last week.
She chews on the wheel and I've given her plenty of wooden chews. I've heard if you give them a hard dog biscuit (in small amounts) they will enjoy chewing on this more than they wood on unflavored wood. This tastes good to them and help wears down their teeth somewhat.
I couldn't find a picture/link, but if you go to your walmart there should be these cheese shaped wooden chews (in the small animal section).
My mice go crazy with these, I'm sure that hamsters would too.
And this is a good treat for them, give it about once a month.

try giving it different types of chew toys like paper towel tubes, cardboard, and rags to chew on. you can also give it tissues or toilet paper or paper towels.
