Help! Cherokee Rear End??? Get best answer!!?
I had a problem with my 91 Cherokee Sport 4x4. The rear was welded for offroad purposes, making city driving unbearable with all the squeeling and tire wear (aggressive tires). What kind of rear end can I use to drive around in winter, while still keeping the offroad performance that the welded rear delivers (limited slip diff)?
** Before the welded rear end only my right rear tire would spin on slippery surfaces. This is a problem as my 4wd sometimes doesn't work at all...
Any help is much appreciated,
Ryan

Waht you need is a locking differential of which there are several to chose from. There are ARB air operated lockers. OX cable operated lockers and the Eaton E-Locker (electronic). These all act as open differentials most of the time and can be locked so both wheels on the axle turn at the same rate, 100% locked.
I use ARB lockers from and rear on my '97 TJ. The axles used on the Rubicon Wranglers are low pressure air lockers. I'm not sure if it's these lockers that are limited slip differentials when unlocked or some other locking differential. If you wanted to use Rubicon axles you'd need the low pressure pump off the Rubicon or regulated low psi supply from an on board air set up. The axle would also need the spring and shock mounts swapping.

ok it all depends on your budget
ARB air lockers are probably the nices just because you can turn them off but if your going to go with a solid diff i would go with a detriot locker they are fairly cheap and they are always locked, the only disadvantage is that you wont be able to turn like you would with a air or electronic locker. but without a doubt i would go with a detriot over an ox lock any day
hope it helps

you will have to start fresh with a repalcement axle the one you have is garbage now. make sure to match the gear ratios with the front. i personally like the detroit lockers i feel they are the strongest. only personal opinion though. either way whatever you do its going to be expensive. good luck
