How old do you have to be to drop out of high school?

[I'm not dropping out of high school, fyi] But my friend says you can drop out of high school in 9th grade. For some reason I thought it was you could drop out when you were 17 with a parent signature?

I live in PA if that helps. . .

[I've tried to find it online..but can't]

16 is the youngest but your parent has to sign something if you're 16 or 17 at 18 you can just drop out

You have to be 16 and its not just one day you leave and don't come back. The school gets all involved and tries to place you somewhere else instead of quitting like alternative and the state usually calls your parents.

It depends from state to state. In some places it's 16 in others it's 18. But I also heard, many states are trying to raise it to 18 so there will be more graduates.

In TX, I believe it's 16, and you don't have to get parental ok. Of course, it's the single most stupid thing a kid can do. Hate it if you want, graduate with Cs and Ds, but without that diploma, you'll be a janitor the rest of your life.

Compulsory education isn't based on what grade you're in, but on your age. The ages for compulsory education depends on the state. I believe that in PA, kids must attend school until age 17.

you can drop out at 16 w/ parental consent, without it is 17
