How come the UAW gets no heat from the media concerning the big 3?

After all, the UAW employees are paid in the top 10% of the american workforce.. while the companies they work for are dying..

Update:

I really beg to differ michelob..

Update 2:

we need unity -- I support unions, but I am far from the left, and i definately don't support those morons at the UAW..

Update 3:

Duchess -- The ceo is overpaid, no doubt, best stat i've found he makes 14.4 mil a year obviously it varies according to how well the company is doing but..

GM has 145000 employees. 10 dollars each adds up to 1.4 million. 100$ each adds up to .. 14.5 million.. thats right 100k more than the CEO makes in a year.

also they give retirement plans to 1.1 million ex-employees. I am to lazy to look up the stats but i imagine it cost them significantly more than 14$ each a year.

So I blame the workers because they are obviously the problem.

So take a f***ing math class and learn something about multiplication that when you multiply numbers by huge figures like 145k and 1.1 million it comes out to very large numbers.

Naturally I know you're not convinced, because you have no idea what you're talking about and people like you never let facts get in their way.

100$ a person is likely 2-4 hours of work.

greatly overshadowing what the CEO makes in terms of company operating cost.

Update 4:

--Bhitchyprincess

"I don't understand the hate and anger directed towards the workers. We don't make the policy."

1. I don't hate you or any UAW member specifically. I hate UAW leadership.

2: If you don't believe they make the policy, then you are sorely mistaken.

"Do you hate the athlete making millions just to hit a ball or the actor, or the singer, or even idiots like Paris Hilton"

Yes. but thats neither here nor there.

My question was about the UAW.

The entertainment industry is willing to pay those people, and so long as they are not demanding more from the companies, while the companies are struggling.. I see no reason to interfere.

"We didn't put the companies where they are today. You can thank the CEOs..."

The CEOs had little choice because the union pushed and pushed for higher wages. Thats just how it works. Also, the ceos are overpaid.

I'd like to say again, my disenchantment isn't towards you.. its towards the UAW.

Update 5:

Also bhitchy, my last desire is for you, or any other UAW employee to lose their job, but look at it, 29$ an hour.. I've worked for 9$ an hour and done fine in a factory.. you said yourself highschool and passing a drug test is all you need.. don't you think 29$ an hour is a bit excessive for what you do? yea.. its hard work.. but.. your company is dying, and where i understand its not directly your fault.. you should really consider saying something to your union about this. I'm sure you know that if the big 3 go under, you lose your job. if the UAW took 5$ an hour less per person.. it would save the company 725K per HOUR.. meanwhile for you, it would mean 24$ an hour.. still sitting pretty.

Overall I think the union discussion should be something along the lines of..

"we need to save this company, we (the UAW) will take 5$ an hour less per employee, if you cut the CEO salary by..suchandsuch" saving the company you work for.

Update 6:

Making the cars cheaper, the company more profitable, and investors and consumers very happy. While barely hurting the CEO and the UAW employees.

I am a UAW line worker. I make roughly $29 an hour. Our wages and benefits are about 10% of the cost of the vehicle.

I didn't tell the company I work for how much to pay me or what benefits I wanted. I filled out an application and passed the drug test. I have a college education but a high school diploma is all that is required. Any of you could have done the same.

I don't understand the hate and anger directed towards the workers. We don't make the policy. Do you hate the athlete making millions just to hit a ball or the actor, or the singer, or even idiots like Paris Hilton? These people truly make an insane amount of money.

The tax money that is being requested is our tax dollars to. I pay ALOT of taxes, I suspect more than the majority on this site, and if using my tax dollars will save anyone's job, I am all for it. We don't need anymore people out of work.

We didn't put the companies where they are today. You can thank the CEOs, and the dealerships that lied to get loans for people that couldn't afford them all so that the salesman could get a huge commission, blame the banks for not checking to see if these people could afford the loans, blame the consumer that knew he couldn't afford the loan but oh he had to have that big truck with all the extras, just blame the right people.

It's bad karma to hate out of jealousy. Be careful with that.

not an answer- but the big 3 needs to get rid of the uaw to be competitive with foreign companies. these companies are non-union and their cost of producing a vehicle is considerbly less. mainly because they dont pay thier employees as much. making 40 dollars an hour is great, but when the uaw workers are in the cheese line they might be thinking 'you know for what i did, 20 bucks a hour doesnt sound so bad.

what makes me mad is- i want to buy american vehicles and if all the american companies go under then i would be forced to by foreign vehicles. im sure gm, ford, and chrysler do not want to pay their employees so much, but they can hardly do anything about since the employees can strike. the big 3 are losing ground to foreign car companies because they have less profit, because they have to pay their employees so much money. im not against the workers and agree with what the person below me says about not dictating what their pay is. making $20 is decent money, wouldnt the workers rather work for less then not work at all?

the uaw leaders are greedy and it is gonna effect all the union members if the companies fall, not them because they already have a stockpile of dough. maybe you uaw members out there should think about that and confront the uaw leaders, oh but you cant do that because they will find some reason to fire you if you make a ruckus. and round and round we go.

Source(s): not that informed on the subject, but opiniated, so you uaw workers out there dont get to mad im not the decision maker for you, just a concerned citizen afraid to lose american autos

You're source for your statement? How much does the CEO of an auto industry make in ONE DAY? Why blame the worker? And don't give me the $70 an hour drivel....that's been proven wrong.

Try to keep up, the union is making concessions AGAIN while we speak.

media knows better, the more they expose this to the public , the more outcry of no bail out from the people. and that's the last thing the democrats don't want to happen !

Because the media, with a few exceptions, supports the left who in turn support unions.
