Sleeping Positions for Pregnancy?

I am 99 % sure I am pregnant (well, one missed period and two positive tests sure) but wasn't able to schedule a blood test until this Friday. I can't be more than 3-4 weeks along.

I am a light sleeper, and the only way I can really fall asleep is by lying on my stomach. I am concerned whether this might be harmful to the embryo. I have tried sleeping on my side or my back for the past two nights, with dismal results. Now I am worried that my lack of sleep might be worse for the baby than sleeping on my stomach (yes, I know, but this is my first baby so I'm worried about everything).

I intend to ask the doctor about this Friday, but until then, does anyone have any advice that has been through this? Is it OK to sleep on your stomach as long as you can while pregnant? Right now I am tired and my shoulders hurt from trying to sleep on my sides.

Thank you in advance!

Congrats and we look forward to hearing all of the hundred other questions you will post, and those of us who have had children will laugh and remember our first!! :) At this point in your pregnancy you would have to just about break your pelvis to hurt the baby. I'm a stomach sleeper, and I slept on mine as long as I could. Then I graduated to the side with a pillow between my knees. Your fine. Enjoy the comfortable sleep while you can! Congrats again, and we are all here for all your questions!!! Merry Christmas!!!

It's never a health issue to sleep on your stomach. Your baby is always cushioned by a bag of water. It's just a comfort issue for you. I actually woke up that way not long ago when I was 28 or 29 weeks pregnant.

Keep sleeping on your stomach, but once you find out you're pregnant, start trying to get use to sleeping on your sides. I know it's hard. I'm a back sleeper, and even with a giant body pillow, I still wake up that way from time to time.

  • i still sleep on my stomach and i will be 20 weeks wednesday, like others said the stomach is a comfort level thing. the back is bad cuz it presses on the vena cava in your back, which is a main artery, but dont worry about that until at least your second trimester, which you have a while to wait for. i still lay on my back sometimes, but medical experts say that your body will correct itself if u do that. you should sleep on your sides and i think the further along we get the harder it is to maintain sleeping on back or stomach so it will probably happen eventually.

It's perfectly ok to sleep on your stomach for as long as comfortable during pregnancy. Once you start getting uncomfortable on it though it's best to try and sleep on your left side for blood flow, sleeping on your back later in pregnancy can put pressure on a major vein or nerve, I'm not sure which one anymore.

I like to try and make a little pillow nest, a body pillow in front of me, a pillow behind me to keep me from rolling over, pillows under my head under my tummy... just make a nest and get comfy! Good luck!

Your baby will be fine. My problem was that I sleep on my back and that can cut off circulation to the baby. I would fall asleep on my side but wake up on my back and freak out. But my baby boy is healthy and fine. He came a little early but he is the most beautiful thing!

The rule of thumb is that when you feel uncomfortable on your stomach is when you should stop sleeping on your stomach I have heard of women who sleep on their tummies till about 20 weeks or so!

So NO right now you are not doing any harm at all!!

Sleep on you belly. You doctor will tell you that however you are comfortable sleeping is fine. I slept on my stomach through both pregnacies and my kids weren't squished or deformed, although my son was sick, it had nothing to do with how I slept. SLeep on your belly, be comfortable, baby is very well protected.

JC Penny's has the physique pillows. in any different case attempt Stein Mart/TJ Maxx. i'm presently pregnant with twins, so slumbering on my area is out of the question! i've got continuously slept on my abdomen too - it relatively is annoying to get delicate. slumbering on your lower back isn't unavoidably undesirable for the child, it relatively is in simple terms extra uncomfortable to you. infant will positioned stress on your backbone, and could reason stress on a nerve - making you experience dizzy. i exploit ALOT of pillows. I sleep closer to on my lower back, yet propped up extra. I sleep on my area, yet no longer promptly. extra in the direction of laying down, this helps with pillows. I even have discovered that many pillows, and a guy, is extra handy to sleep with than one vast physique pillow. i'm additionally one that tosses & turns for the time of the nighttime, and that i'm afraid that i will awaken in a position that i would be apologetic approximately later. I even have used the physique pillows contained in the previous - the youngsters enjoyed them extra - they might all lay their heads on the pillow, and watch a movie.
