What is the name of that shot?

Okay..so my physical therapist told me to go to my doctor and get a shot to loosen up the muscles in my neck and shoulder, because the muscle is to hard for her to work with. My question is what is the name of that medication or something similar. The purpose of this shot is to get the tension out of my neck...Please help me!!

In the case of muscular tension, it's usually referrred to as a "trigger point" injection and lidocane is used.

If it is meant to reduce swelling and inflammation around a nerve root, then it is referred to as an "epidural" and usually uses cortisone.
