Hindu temple practices...quick questions!?

I visited a pluralist Hindu Temple last week. During the puja members of the Temple twirled a gold tray of candles around. What is that called? And also, near the end of the puja the priest offered a water substance the the members drank and then splashed on their heads. It tasted spicy and floral-ish. What was that? Thanks!

It was not Gold tray of candles. It was either campher or wicks soaked in oil. It is calle Aarti (Harati).

The water substance contains basil leaves which give the spicy taste to it.
