this is an employment ethics question?

The more people that apply at this Labor Ready place, and the more people who fail, the more $$ they get in government funding. They don't have the jobs they say they do. They just need to show the numbers to keep the funding coming in. You should have been given a print out of your testing. Send this to the Better Business Office and file a complaint. There are legitimate temp agencies out there, but there are also the ones that don't have the positions but still get the government funding. Makes you want to run out and start one of those for yourself.

I had the very same thing happen to me in CO. I was laid off from one job and had been hired for another one, but the new job didn't start for 2 weeks. So I went to Labor Ready to try to get a job sorting through recycling trash and getting paid by the day. (Not a glamorous job, but it was only for the 2 weeks until my new job started.)

I took their test and answered truthfully that I had never had an incident of workplace violence, never stolen from an employer and had never done drugs on a job site. And the lady behind the counter told me I failed. She said it is their policy to only hire people who admit they have stolen from employers, "because everyone at one time or another has stolen from an employer". It was the most ridiculous thing I had ever heard in my life. And I decided if that is the way they run their business, I wanted no part of them.

Theoretically, they could be sued because this stupid test of their is total BS. But a class action lawsuit like that would cost thousands and thousands of dollars to successfully prosecute, and no one really wants to deal with all that time and money, just to get a job sorting through recycled garbage. (At least, I don't.)

Some really bored, really rich lawyer with nothing better to do should take up this cause, because Labor Ready really is a BS company.
