employment ethics and descrimination question important?

Your Open QuestionShow me another »

i re entered this qestion because the answers i got i appreciate but were more or less similar stories to mine. I wouls like some legal knowledge if at all possible please and ty

This is an employment ethics question?

ok heres the deal.

Yesterday i went to an employment agency here in rutland VT . called labor ready. How this company works is like this. You show up at 5 30 am and wait and hope that you get sent out to work for the day. If you are lucky enough to work you will get paid at the end of the day.

So any ways i went there and the lady at the front desk told me they did in fact have work available, and that i have to take a test first. Ok great lets get started.

In this test you are given a binder with plastic covered pages then on the table is an electronic keyboard in which you enter your answers from each question into this. The questions are all multiple choice.

Ok, now all of these questions are as follows there are 72 in all.

1, In the past five yearshow much would you say you have stolen form previous employers?

a. 25-50$

b 50-100$

c. 100- 500$

d. none i wouldnt do that

question 2. Do you use drugs

a. occasionally

b. all the time

c. rarely

d. never

BY now you get the point. pretty self explainatory right? So when i was done with the test i gave the electronic gizmo to the lady and she hooked it up to a computer then i was told that i failed the test.

Now wait a minute on every qestion i put i did not use drugs i would not ever steal from my employer, I could pass a drug test, and i never started fights. Whats wrong with this picture.

I have worked for a temp agency before and for a little over a year i made airp[lane blades at a general electric company before we (the temps) were laid off. These guy wont let me shovel fkn snow.

I was bewildered and then i talked to some people saying they want you to be a junkie and they want you to just get by so they can feed your habits and youll keep coming back. All in all a smart but very unprofessional way to conduct a business.

I question their ethics is this ok to do? i mean now after researching a bit i found other related questions in here about the same exact thing.

How can a company turn me down because i do not use drugs or steal?

Is there a way to sue this company? I am very offended and very ticked off as i am just looking for some christmas money that is getting harder and harder to come by this day and age.

Many people may say that i am wrong in my asessment, buy i assure you that i am not wrong by any means. I also was telling my neighbor this story last night and he said the same thing to me, they failed him too and he has 5 kids and is not a drug user.

you are confusing the test with the drug thing, that is a small part of it, they are also checking your honesty and integrity, the questions are redundant in one form or another so eventually you trap your self because no one has a Halo and they know that, someone who is smart enough to remember all the previous questions usually outsmarts them selves

This bewilders me. Most of those companys want the perfect employee, ones that don't use drugs and such. Maybe the issue was that you were too perfect for it to be real??

I never understood temp agencies or people that want to work for them. They basically get a part of your paycheck. They pay you less than what you could work for the company directly. Seems like a crock.

Are these people an EOE?? Do they advertise that they are EOE?? If so, they should give you reasons for not hiring you. Shoveling snow is pretty easy if you are in shape to do so.

Good luck and don't let this burn you up too bad.

They are doing a profile for a specific level of skills and aptitude. There is nothing illegal about this as long as it does not use a protected class or form of written harassment in the selection process.

Don't believe anyone who tells you that they want to hire addicts and criminals. Just like any other employer, they are looking for the best fit. And if they want people who are going to be happy shoveling snow and holding banners on street corners, you may be overqualified for their needs.

You can sue anyone (or company), the question is: do you have a case. If you truly believe you have been unfairly discriminated, then go to www.eeoc.gov and click on "discrimination". If what you read covers the facts of your situation, then contact the state agency that oversees employment law in VT and give them the facts and proof.

Hmmm should I be choosing just one? LOL! Eeek too hard. Will just write my first thought for each thing: Adherence to rules: I do go by the "rules" for the most part, but it is more for ethical reasons and because I am very honest as well. I don't follow rules for rules sake and do not think that they are the most important thing Adherence to laws: ehh, kind of the same as above, maybe a strong connotation as laws are more concrete than rules maybe. Again, if I am aware of them, and it is possible to adhere to them, then I do. Don't see any reason to break a low but I am not a law enforcer perse. Adherence to ethics: I'd say that I am ethical. It is like innate in me. I like to win, but will not win by any means necessary. Cheating to win, is not winning at all imo. Adherence to fairness: Yes, I like fairness. Very important to me and it annoys me when people don't play fair. Kind of linked w. ethics I guess. Again, if you didn't play fair, then you didn't win to me. Adherence to truth: I love truth. It is extremely important to me. An honest person, even if what they are telling me is awful, will still get my respect for not being a liar. I just love honesty and am definitely closer to people who are direct and honest Adherence to people feelings: I have a high regard for peoples feelings. I do consider how a person will feel or how it might make them feel when making a decision or before saying something. I do not think feelings are the end all of all things, but I do give them consideration. However, logic, fairness, truth, and ethics, will win over selfish feelings (like, I think it's okay to go after this married man because I love him and want to have him---those are stupid feelings and will not be given any consideration from me). Me: Sun: Sadge, Moon: Leo, Mercury: Capricorn, Venus and Mars: Scorpio

No you can't sue a company for not hiring you.

From the two questions you list, yes it does sound weird. But you said there were 72 questions, so just seeing two of them doesn't give a whole picture. If for example one of them is "have you ever told a lie" and you said you never had, they probably would doubt you, since there is probably nobody who has NEVER IN THEIR LIFE told a lie.
