You could use CCleaner to try to delete unneeded files.

    http://www.ccleaner.com/

    Or

You could back up what you need and reformat your PC

    Or

Maybe you could use different Antivirus because it uses lots of resources from your computer. I recommand ESET NOD32

If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your computer for normal stuff and not gaming. You don't always need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.

First, if you haven't cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC's resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.

    2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space. Here is how:

    1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser

    2. Click Start, click "Control Panel", and then double-click "Internet Options".

    3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files.

    4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the "Delete all offline content" check box , and then click OK.

    5. Click OK.

    3. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how:

    1. Open your Start menu.

    2. Click Run

    3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"

    4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab

    5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.

    6. Click "OK"

Greetings. My name's Sanjay Patel, and I currently hold an honorary Master's degree in the field of Computer Science. I am aware of, and have personal knowledge related to your question. There are computer maintenance businesses which are probably in your area, however they come at the cost of hiring a professional to enter your home. There may also be some local destinations where you can drop off your computer and wait to have a technician look at it. These options can often be costly, and pretty inconvenient. The answer to this question can probably be found doing a little extra research on Google. A well-running computer can be a hard thing to maintain. From my experience, there is but only One software which is reputable- and consistently reliable for healing sick, slow computers. Reimage™ is a world-renown, easy to use software designed by Forensic scientists and made for the average person. This thing will fix literally just about ANY problem you could possibly be having with your PC. Reimage was recommended to me by a Professor during my 2nd year of Graduate school.

There are many factors that can affect the speed of your computer. First of all, if you are running less than 2gb of memory and you have Vista, get more memory. If you have XP, you really need at least 1gb of memory. Otherwise follow these steps.

    1. Clear prefetch: click start>run and type c:\windows\prefetch. Delete all items in there and reboot.

    2. Download and run ccleaner available at www.ccleaner.com. Run both the cleaner and the registry component.

    3. Defrag your system if it's almost full

    4. If you suspect spyware, run smitfraudfix and malwarebytes from safe mode.

    5. Uninstall toolbars and windows desktop search as well as Google desktop search.

One common way that even well maintained PCs go into slo-mo is due to the number of applications that add themselves to the start-up routine. Often there is no real reason for them to do it.

Example: Adobe acrobat loads a huge chunk of the app at start-up so that it sems more responsive if you use it during that session.

To cull these start-up hogs go to the start menu and the run command. Type msconfig and hit enter,

A smallconsole appears with various tabs. Go to the "start-up" tab and take the ticks out of as many items as you like - except perhaps items that are part of your virus checker - and maybe items to do with your video card.

    Everything else can go.

CLick apply then restart the PC.

You should find an enormous improvement from this alone.

Well well well, so your computer Hewlett-Packard is slowwwww. Well there are solutions, never download accelerators they do not work. You should defrag your whole computer. It is most likely that your computers data is in fragments. Download the free defrag software on my source. No it is not trial. Computer Geek away! Oh and last resort if need it be. You need to reformat, which will delete everything on your computer, then reinstall the operation system. In simple terms for operation system. Meaning the software that is XP or Vista or Ubuntu or whatever the system you used.

you can download and scan your computer with Avg

    or you can try avast*

    here is the link: http://www.download.com/Avast-Home-Edition/3000-22...

    you can try ccleaner.

it cleans temp internet files history, cookies, ect.. also cleans the base of windows. the registry .

here is the link : http://www.download.com/CCleaner/3000-2144_4-10315...

[also give a defragment to your hdd. go to start > all pros > Accessories > system tools > disk defragmenter. you can aslo try the disk clean up.

another way is to clean up windows temp files and prefetch files. (they are on your hdd wasting space)

just go to start > run > type in "prefetch" and clear all of it.

and then go to run > "%temp%" and clear everything.

ALOT of people always clean up the computer but forget to empty the trash bin. dont forget.
