Is western democracy a sham?

Just reading through posts on this site, so many people, myself included, seem to feel disillusioned with the current political system.

We feel that we cannot trust the words, or motives, of our own governments.

Time and again leading politicians are exposed as corrupt, liars, self-interested frauds.

Is democracy coming to an end? Could we reach a "critical mass" where people take to the streets and utterly reject capitalism and the governemnts that it spawns? Do we in the west have the desire for change, is this even possible? Is there a system that could replace deomcracy? Can we clean democracy up?

It is the worst system ever developed, except for all other systems.

Yes of course it is a sham. How can we call it democracy when a nation of 200 million people has two parties to choose their government from. I don't care if the Dems and the Reps are polar opposites (which they certainly are NOT...look at the bipartisan bailout to prove that!!)

Even if they were poles apart two parties cannot possibly fairly represent a true range of the diverse needs and wants of the American people.

Who are the gay lobby meant to vote for? Dems mostly, because they hate gays a little less.

If there were a Christian Right Party at least they would be out in the open...not hiding behind a veil of Conservative Politics...when half of them are religious zealots plain and simple.

I think even the Klan should be allowed to run candidates. Let's really see how much support they have. I suspect it is a great deal more than anyone in Washington is about to admit.

We must see our enemies in order to fight them. It is this two party system which has led us to the point where more than 50% of Americans have NO ONE looking after their interests in government.

The middle and upper class white heterosexuals have had plenty of representation all along.I have a fear that the middle and upper class black heterosexuals are just getting their voice heard...but that there are still many whom Obama will not do a great deal for.His record on the gay marriage debate is not good. His economic policies (despite all the propaganda from both sides) are far from revolutionary and everyone from gays, anarchists, Native Americans, pagans, polygamists and hippies are all still left effectively disenfranchised.

I think it is high time that the rest of the US taxpayers got a voice too!!

I think you are talking about the States. Most other Western Democracies are moving away from capitalism and becoming more socialist. The American system is built so it is hard to change anything, it's Americas greatest strength and weakness. There is corruption in every society but you are at least in a country that you can express your dislike for it and vote some one out of office for any reason you want. Go to China and try that. Actually try finding a web site that has the words antidemocratic china or human rights violations in China, while there.

When 51% control what 49% must do, when elected officials disregard the will , and wishes of the people, to perpetrate their own "axis of evil", and, use the powers granted by the people, to further their personal agenda.

And, the "leaders" have to stoop to lying, misrepresenting and concocting facts, in order to commit crimes against humanity, and foreign country's. At the same time methodically breaking down the powers, and rights granted to their own people, with a corrupt cabinet of co-conspirator's, and no intentions to "better the nation", and every intention, to the contrary.

I would say "sham" is putting it lightly, "scam", would be my descriptor of choice.

    Regards.

Federal and State Governments has too much power. With power comes corruption. We need Conservatives. By Conservative I mean people who believe in the conservative use of government. Strict adherence to Federal and State Constitutions. The US Constitution does not allow for 80% of the programs these "lawmakers" have put in place.

Source(s): The only source I need is common sense.
