2000 mercury villager oil turning to sludge?

Just had camshaft, timing belt, seals, and distributor replaced and oil changed. Once car was warm oil turned to sludge. They tried telling me I was not changing my oil regularly prior to completing the repair because the oil was sludgy, but I do ! What can be causing this ?

    Car makes sludge due to-

1.Engine running too cold- check your thermostat valve which runs your car engine at optimum Temperature.

2.Blow by gases- piston rings are worn out.Get the compression of each cylinder checked.

3.Coolant mixing with oil- check for head gasket leak, oil cooler leakages.,cylinder block leaking,

It is an older car. There might just be some gunk in there due to age.

I'm a bit confused though... How do you know that the oil turned to sludge? If you just got the car serviced, I doubt you drained all of the oil out. Did you just look at the dipstick to check the level? Oil looses it's yellow color pretty quick and turns brown/black. That's normal.

If you are really concerned, here is what I suggest.

Go to the auto parts store and get a can of motor flush. Follow the instructions on the can. Then change the oil again, but use a high quality synthetic oil like Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum, or Castrol Syntec. Make sure it's the full synthetic and not a blend. Also, get a good oil filter. Fram is crap. Use a PureOne or Mobil 1 filter.

Once you do that you should be fine.

If you didn't buy the car new the previous owner probably neglected servicing properly. If the vehicle runs ok now I'd just drive it out and sevice regularly with a good grade 10/30 or 10/40 engine oil. It's too late to switch to synthetic. Your van is a Nissan and with care they have a good record. Good luck.
