Should I put air in my tires?

I have a 2008 Kia Rio. I know the man who sold me the car (dealer) said that the light would come on warning me of low air pressure in my tires when the weather was cold. I think it's been getting down to the single digits at night, not warmer than 20 degrees during the day.

Well my light for low air pressure came on. I guess my question is, how do you know when you should actually put air in your tires or if you should just assume the light will go off when it warms up a little more?

Get a tire gage from the auto parts store. The low pressure gage in your car is what I refer to as an idiot light. Meaning that when it goes off your already in the red. Just check em with a tire gage once a week and add air as needed. Cold weather causes your air pressure to go down. Ive heard people say that when it warms up the air pressure will return but ive never seen it happen first hand.

There can be a vast difference in tire pressures due to outside temperatures. Testing tire pressure cold, then test again after driving when the tires have warmed up will give you pressure range. If the warning light goes out when the tires warm up you'r good to go.

Air - expands in heat and contracts win cold. So, in winters, you require more pressure in your tyres than in summer. So, if your warning light is functioning properly follow the warning light - as to when to increase the air pressure. By and large, your cut-off line should be 20 degrees. If the temperature increases to 25, deflate, if comes down less than 20 - inflate.

Many would say, by running the tyres get hot and the air teperature increases. Yes, but that again is proprtionate to the overall temperature.

My english is not good, but I hope I have been able to convey the simple principal of Expansion and contraction. Good Luck!

I agree with Fraud. I have the tire monitoring pressure system in my car. On colder/cooler days, the light may turn on but it doesn't necessarily mean it needs air. Run the tires for a few minutes and it may turn off otherwise take it to the gas station and put air into each tire to the recommended PSI.

I've heard, you should check your tire air pressure once per month, and inflate if nessesary. Maintaining correct tire inflation pressure helps optimize tire performance and fuel economy. Correct tire inflation pressure allows you to experience tire comfort, durability and performance designed to match the needs of your vehicle. ...but try telling the wife that. Family road trips are supposed to be enjoyable, right? but not when the kids are screaming.. "Are we nearly there yet?" ... "Daddy... I need the toilet"... The wife, meanwhile, is stressing about being late for Aunt Sue. Why can't kids hold it? and I don't care if we're late! We pull into the garage for fuel, It's been about a month, so I decide to check the tire air pressure. "Why are you checking the tires, we're going to be late!" ...argh! Kids running around the store grabbing chocolate bars. Sometimes I wonder if getting married at 22 was the right idea...

If you have a light that is coming on telling you have low air pressure, it is time to put air in your tires. Don't wait for it yo go out.

I would think you need to put air in your tires. Tire monitoring systems are usually set up to compensate for fluctuations in air temperature but I am not sure to what extremes. I would recommend calling the service department where you bought the Kia and double check with them.

radial tires do look low when they are cold. after you driven the car and the tires gets warmed up then the light should go off.

Just get a tire guage and check it yourself.
