Afghanistan has always been viewed jealously by both the West and Russia. The region has been hotly fought over for many years. The Khyber Pass actually marks the limit to which Britain were able to push in their objective of controlling the region. Afghans stopped the British at that point. It also cuts through the Pushtu tribal area which in itself has been the cause of conflict.

In the 1950's and 60's Afghanistan was part of the 'Hippy Trail' where people were able to travel through it with no problems. In fact, many women in Kabul wore western clothes. That is, until the USSR were 'invited in' by the pro-communist government. A bit like Hungary and Czechoslovakia. Even then, their were plenty of schools there.

Russian involvement put peoples backs up and the Mujaheddin organised a national liberation movement that eventually kicked the Russians out in 1989.

The Taliban who incidentally were created by the US CIA, eventually seized control of the whole country and leads us to the situation we see today.

Islam has never been a religion of peace and never will be. SOME are peaceful, especially those here in the west. Many feel sympathy for the causes of groups like Hamas and Al-Queda. Many Sunni's though look down on the extreme practices. But you should know that violence and intolerance of Judaism as well as Christianity are forever enshrined in the later verses of the Quran.

Most Muslims fear persecution and reprisal from the west. (being rounded up by the govt and sent back or put in jail just for being Muslim) but thats silly.

Retaking the holy land (the crusades) wasnt a crime against humanity. It just wasnt executed properly or orderly and ended up that way.

Apparently youre not a very good student of current events. Sending troops into Iraq and Afganistan liberated those people. For the first time, schools in afganistan can admit women and they dont have to worry about being stoned to death for wearing pants. In Iraq, they dont have rape and torture rooms anymore where a tyrant preyed on his own people.

So what do you suggest we do to fight terrorism? Leave them alone? Actually some inteligence estimates we got from Iraq told us that Al-Queda was demoralized and defeated. Why are they on the run??? Why havent they reasserted themselves in Iraq if what you say is true?? The evidence doesnt fit your assumption which is widely propagated by the marxist media. We learned from 9/11 that we have to fight terrorism. That is Bush doctrine. We have to topple state sponsors of terror, root out their bases of operation, and cut off their financing. Terrorism isnt going to go away by apeasement or telling the peaceful Muslims to yell at them.

The war on terror brings great balance. Let the media chase their own tail. They are becoming less and less relevant as they become cheerleaders for marxist canidates like Obama.

The "media" is just a propaganda machine anymore. they lost integrity years back, about the same time our "leader" taught the world, "it's okay to lie", and, "our" kids, that, "if you get real good at lying, you too, can be president. What a "role model".More like, what a "real moron".

The obvious approach to ending the madness, is to put an end to organized religion, since different peoples "gods" can't play nicely together, they shouldn't be allowed to play at all, I mean REALLY the cause of the worlds problems is "religion", if it has that kind of effect on people, it needs to be outlawed. I think we need education to encourage and equip everyone to be more critical and aware of what certain sections of the media are doing and why. To be able to ask why for instance when there are numbers of employment tribunals going on every day which are not usually reported in the media the Daily Mail fishes up one connected with a senior Muslim chef and sausages, and not bothering to report that there may have been more to it than just the sausages.
