What did Abraham Lincoln do that Barack Obama is emulating as he transitions into the presidency?

Obama has said that instead of hiring a bunch of "yes men" his cabinet will include people with various viewpoints who will sometimes disagree about important issues. He got the idea from "Team of Rivals" which is a recent book about how Lincoln did the same thing.

The greatness that Lincoln achieved through his simplicity might have prompted Obama to emulate him.

Lincoln made extraordinary efforts to attain knowledge while working on a farm, splitting rails for fences, and keeping store at New Salem, Illinois. He was a captain in the Black Hawk War, spent eight years in the Illinois legislature, and rode the circuit of courts for many years. His law partner said of him, "His ambition was a little engine that knew no rest."

Think positively. Surprises sometimes come from the meanest.

besides the reality that Lincoln grew to become into very openminded and opposed slavery, I doubt he seen them equivalent as hardly all of us seen the blacks to be honestly equivalent in those days. i think of he woudl be a great deal shocked to discover we've a black president! besides the reality that i'm very pleased that we, as a usa, have finally gotten to the element the place we'd decide on a black president, i'm not keen on THIS president and it has not something to do with race or history. i'm a financial conservative.

About the only thing they have had in common, is that they are both Human Beings. Were not even sure about Obama, the courts still out on that one.
