Ever had a curious child or Grandchild stick a bean, rock, etc. in the nose? Info below may be useful.?

Our daughter stuck a small piece of rock in her ear when she was 3. Looks like the Granddaughter is carrying on the tradition, only it's a bean in the nose.

Our son tried to remove the bean with a pair of tweezers but was afraid of lodging the bean deeper so he took her to the ER.

This was their very simple solution. The doctor told him to hold the empty nostril closed(while the child lies flat) and blow in her mouth. So my son gently explained to the 3yr. old that he was going to blow in her mouth to see if he could make the bean fly out her nose. (He asked her first.) The bean went flying across the room.

Lucky for our son that the Granddaughter told him she'd put the bean in her nose and it was hurting because our daughter didn't tell us about the rock she'd stuck in her ear. It had been in there for several days and she developed a high temp of 105.

The bean came from a Sunday School project at church.

My sister when we were 3, she stuck a bean in her nose, only it was in there for quit a while. Later she developed an awful smell, no matter how many baths my mom gave her, she still stunk to high heaven....LOL.. Well, then my sister started complaining with her nose, telling my mom it hurt. My mom finally took her to the doctor to not only find out whats going on with my sister smelling so bad, but to also find out why my sister was having so many problems with her nose. Well, the doctor solved both of the problems, she hurt because there of course was a bean in her nose with a very long root on it, that was also the reason why she smelled real bad...LOL... She forgot that she had stuck a bean in her nose, and it was a couple of months before it started having any kind of effects on her, besides her smelling so bad. I still remember that event quit well. We still have a good laugh over it. Best wishes to you and your grandchildren.

Not the nose, but how about field corn in the ears? My son did this ~ not whole kernels, just pieces. He told me his ear hurt, I look in there with a small flashlight and saw what I thought was a small hunk of wax, so I get out the peroxide to take care of it. Well, it didn't come out and he was complaining of it hurting even more, so I took him to ER. They were the ones that figured out it was not wax, and went in there with some kind of instrument to get it out. It took 6 men to hold him down (ER nurses and 3 more RNs from somewhere else in the hospital). Finally got it out of there. 2 days later, he's telling me his other ear hurts, so I look, and sure enough, there's something yellow in there. Not going to mess around this time, I took him straight to ER,

but this time they gave him a small amount of a "twilight" drug so it only took 2 RNs to hold him down. What a trip ! Come to find out, he had put both pieces in the same day, but after the ordeal getting the first one out he was afraid to tell us about the second one. I could have absolutely KILLED him !!!

Our youngest son stuck a pea up his nose. Having been to the ER many times already with our kids, I decided to try to take care of it at home. I grabbed a drinking straw, inserted it into his nostril and breathed in as gently as I could. It was a success!

While in med school I worked in an ER for sometime. Kids, they will put or swallow anything up to and including bugs of various sizes but, adults, I can't even tell you what they do so, sometimes it goes on and the never learn but, I do know of one doctor who has a collection of X-Rays that you wouldn't believe.

My daughter stuck a piece of foam up her nose. Had no idea it was even there until her nose started running like crazy. All the mucus made the foam swell. That is when we spotted it and pulled it out.

To this day we still laugh about it.

This is a useful bit of information for which I thank you since I have a four year old granddaughter and you never know. I put four marbles in my mouth once, while running across a field, and swallowed the lot! And one of them I had been given to return to my sister as it was her best one! Didn't hunt for it though!

Kids have to experiment. My cousin shoved pussy-willows up his nose. They swelled and he had to have them removed. Even some strange adults will do those kinds of things. Think of the people who can blow smoke out their ears or milk out of their tear ducts. Curiosity killed the cat and occasionally a human.

I remember I was at my best friends house when I was really young and she got a pea stuck up her nose and had to go to the doctors to have it hooked out. My mum says my aunty was rolling a bead round her nose when she was young and slipped and it went up her nose. Happens more often than I thought!
