How do people react you your tattoos?

I have a few larger, visible tattoos and strangers will come up and just touch them. Its shocking, to say the least. How do people react to your tattoos?

I work as a bartender on the weekends and I have a lot of reactions to them. Most of the time it's people just asking to see them, and then it's fun to watch their jaws drop as soon as I show them since they are expecting little tiny ones most the time. I haven't ever had anyone say anything negative to my face. The strangest occurrence I have had was one night a drunken regular decided to ask me what I had because a little tiny bit was sticking out under my shirt. He then didn't give me the opportunity to respond, and lifted my shirt up for me. That was crossing the line a bit.

People react verbally with "oohs" and "aahs". And yes, total strangers will touch my shoulder blade or arm, as if they can't believe the tattoo is real or actually there! Is is shocking isn't it?

Tattoos are a great conversation starter. Then others show their tattoos or tell of friends and family that have tattoos. Each tattoo has a story of that person's life at that particular time in their life.

I have a really great tattoo on my chest, and it's kind of funny when I wear a shirt that shows it, because people will stare at it while I'm walking around. I always forget that it's there and get all offended thinking they're staring at my boobs. Hah.

Last night, at a concert, I had a girl ask me if it hurt. I get that one every now and then too.

All my friends love my tattoos, but pretty much all of them except the one on my chest don't show unless I'm in a bathing suit, so nobody else really sees them.

They touch your tattoos? That's pretty annoying. I would punch them right in the nuts and tell them to mind their own business. Unless it's a hot chick... she can touch them

Nobody has ever touched my tattoos. A lot of people just stare at them. When I hang out around heavily tattooed people they don't even stare at my tats, they are just used to them I guess.

I don't have any tattoo but I don't react when I see someone with it, some people have a nice one.

Ew, I completely understand this. I have a chinese character on my back that was made to look like it was painted on and people, gross people, come up and touch it all the time. I punched a guy in the face once b/c he touched it, then I turned around and he reached for the one I have on my collar bone. Stupid people.

  • I have a butterfly on top of my foot that I always get compliments on. In fact, two women I know copied me and got butterflies in the same place. I wear flip-flops at home and heels at work, so it's visible.

I have a swallow (bird) on the back of my shoulder that I get compliments on, too, and I just got it two days ago.

I'm glad I had a really good artist.

Like most people said here - people will stare. Every now and then someone will give a dirty look but most of the time I think people show an interested type of look.

my tattoos are on my legs, so you really dont see them. but i have 18 piercings in my ears and face so people stop me ALL the time and ask how "my mother feels" ( i am only 20 i suppose at college) or " i bet that hurt" and weird stuff.

i dont care. i really love them :D but i totally know what you mean!!

The most common reaction I get is, "is that real?" My favorite was "You know, you've got a rip in your skin." which was in reference one of mine that looks like my skin is torn. I haven't really gotten any negative reactions, and definitely not had anyone randomly touching me, lol.
