Why are so many Americans so uneducated?
Compared to many other countries, Americans as a whole don't value education as much. And a lot of people just don't know really basic things like pre-algebra and 2nd grade history.
Not to sound condescending or anything! It's just that you'd think Americans would be more educated than they are as a whole, considering how we're a pretty rich country.

Why are so many Americans so uneducated? . . .
We've lost interest in the most important of
resources on this planet, each other, we pray
to god but we worship the dollar bill, we believe
in dreams instead of goals, we'd rather be
entertained than educated, we're masters in
the skill of climbing mountains to obtain what
we want once reaching the summit, and yet
we trip over ant hills in effort to avoid, the
things we really need, namely, the capacity
to one day be who we really wanted to be
all along inside, our true selves and yet
we can't, cause somewhere while on our
journey to adulthood, we betrayed the
best friend we never even knew we had,
our education . . .

Because the average american makes adequate income to support a life and family without knowing or needing 2nd grade history. Instead of forcing our children into a life of studying not only in school but all the way into the night and missing their childhood, we show our children pleasures, enjoying family, and educating them on the important things they will need to survive such as social interaction.

I'm self educated, not that means anything in the real world, but honestly I didn't really fit in at college. Never made friends or was able to hold conversations and connect with people. It just seemed like I didn't belong there with all the studious types so I quit. I wish I didn't. It was hard though so maybe I'm just dumb.

The reason why is because we all have contributed to a lazy scoiety and other people in other countries educate their kids at like age 3 and push them
thats why
its kinda weird

I find the world's majority are generally uneducated. To hear some people, you'd think they just fell out of the stupid tree.
And algebra doesn't mean anything in the real world. Intelligence isn't rated wholly on algebra and how much 2nd grade history you know. Intelligence is a capacity for learning, reasoning, understanding, and similar forms of mental activity; aptitude in grasping truths, relationships, facts, meanings, etc. Not knowing algebra has never hindered me since i left high school.
Maybe some people are uneducated because schools insist on teaching things that aren't relevant in real life?

I think they do value education but like so many other countries they lose focus on the actual teaching and have got caught up in the rut of shoving information down a kids throat to pass some test of other.
What does surprise me is how woefully uninformed a large majority of americans are about what is happening in the next STATE let alone the rest of the world.

Our pop culture is extremely anti-intellectual. Also our politics--look at the pandering the educated politicians do to appeal to the ignorant. Thirdly, our public education system is atrocious. It's been hostage to various special-interests for years. NCLB is a disgrace.
The way to fix this is to make school a privilege, not a punishment. Throw the little bastards out if they don't want to learn.

You define no parameters of comparison.
Certainly America is more educated than countrys that do not allow women to go to school.
Define what you are comparing America against, and how you measure the numbers, by population?

because americans dont understand the value of education as much
- Anonymous1 decade ago
Because us americans have a choice to either want the edu or not. Most other countries are either get an education and people will see you differently
