Who invented "sin"? Do the Jews believe in sin?

Which "sin" was so bad that a man had to die to save us from it?

Adam receiving knowledge???? LOL!

Update:

So some fundie claims that I must be "loose as a goose" because I question the existence of "sin". Personally, I find that hilarious.

Update 2:

This Texan never voted for anyone named Bush for any office. I always vote.

I have 4 accounts.

The sense of right and wrong is innate.

Primative cultures demonstrate a sense of it, call it what you want.

Even you Texans of George Bush know some right and wrong.

Ahhh to understand this you need to understand the many different kind of historical records/myths.

1st a different example. An Indigenous group might have a historical claim to a piece of land based on a myths saying they'd been there since creation. This will differ from the Archaeological record that be able to suggest that this group may have been there for a thousand years or so, but the evidence showed different cultural groups lived there before then. Thus equals conflict between respecting the Indigenous myth and the Historical evidence.

Now. There is the Xian record to suggest sin originated in Eden, but the other Abrahambic Faiths also share those stories and have a different concept of Sin.

So what I'm saying that, while your question is a good one, there will be conflict between the Bible record and the socio-historical version of reality. Conflict between the claim both Jesus and Eden Residents were the first to recognise it.

I think "sin" came into being when the ancient people first started making laws and setting up behavior codes. I know the concept was there in the Greek religion. I look at the stories where people are punished for being inhospitable or for something else. I'm sure other examples exist in even earlier religions, but I'm not as familiar with them.

Jews believe in sin, but not in the same way Christians do. Jews do not believe that man could or did die to save us from sin.

  • Jews believe that it's human to make mistakes, and that it's generally a good idea to make up for that to those who were harmed by the mistake.

That second part is crucial to your question. Vicarious atonement, someone else making amends for our mistakes, has no place in Judaism.

Neither does original sin. Consequences may continue through generations though. It's a big difference.

Basically sin entered the world when the devil in the form of the serpent tempted Eve and Adam ate of the apple. Next we meet within a generation lies, and also the act of lies being told to God, jealousy and murder with Cain and Able

Adam and Eve's selfishness of doing what they wanted instead of obeying God.

Yes, jews believe in sin. They do not, however, believe in original sin.

Jews have about 300 plus laws that describe different things they must do to stay free of sin.

Sin has always existed. There was a war in heaven because of sin.

To say there is no sin is ignorant.

Loose as a goose and ignorant.
