What is savory? An herb or an herb group?

I have an old recipe that calls for 1T Savory. Is that an herb all it's own or it a general term for a certain group of herbs? If it is a general term, what should I use? It is Tourtiere Pie (pork, beef, potatoes, garlic, onion, clove, and savory).

Update:

Thanks! I'll look for it but if I can't find it...thanks for the alternative. I think my mom always used thyme when she made it but I don't want to ask her because I want it to be a surprise when I serve it on Christmas Eve.

It is an herb. If you can't find it or don't want to find it, use THYME instead.

There are about 30 species called savories, of which Summer Savory and Winter Savory are the most important in cultivation.

Both summer savory and winter savory are used to flavor food. The former is preferred by cooks but as an annual is only available in summer; winter savory is an evergreen perennial.

Savory plays an important part in Italian cuisine, particularly when cooking beans. It is also used to season the traditional Acadian stew known as fricot.

Yerba Buena (Spanish: "good herb"; S. douglasii) is used to make a herbal tea in the western United States.

Winter savory is reputed to help ease flatulence.

I have never heard of savory as a thing. I always heard of it as an adjective describing something.
