It's a rhetorical question, I understand, but it is speculative to the utmost. It has no answer, for it could not have happened, did not happen, any other way than on the cross.
But if you must, the cross is a symbol of that crucifixion, and whatever method used to crucify Him would have carried with it it's own symbol of His crucifixion.
